Birdcatcher question...

So I was looking through some of our horses pedigrees on allbreedpedigree and I found familiar names like three bars but then I found Bend Or and thought ok, thats cool I've heard of him too. Then I saw a horse called Birdcatcher and wondered if thats where the name for the spots came from. It seems like a dumb question to me but I was just wondering.

That is cool, or else I'm just lame in general lol. I never really thought about birdcatcher spots being named after a horse like bend or spots are... I found some paintings of him but none of them show any spots, but then again the description of him says none of his portraits showed it well. It also makes it sound like he is rabicano.
Although Saunterer may have been similar in type his well-known shiny black coat lacked the famous "Birdcatcher ticks" of his sire. None of Birdcatcher's portraits does justice to the tufts of silver hair at the base of his tail nor to the scattered silver throughout his flanks, which were probably inherited from his sire Sir Hercules (bl c 1826 Whalebone), and which he passed on to a number of his offspring, including Daniel O'Rourke (ch c 1849) and Warlock (b c 1853).
From what I've read, he was both rabicano and had Birdcatchers. I've read somewhere that he didn't just have the ticks, but also had clear white dots that changed with the seasons.

Well FWIW I've known several horses with Birdcatchers and no apparent rabicano. One of them didn't even have the SLIGHTEST bit of roaning (which frankly, I find rare).

I know our birdcatcher mare has some odd roaning, a patch on her hip that almost made her not AQHA registerable, very very little face white and no leg white.

They're in our Historical Horses section. Bend Or also had white ticking, and was a great-great grandson of Birdcatcher. I think.

Tetrarch spots - also called chubari spots - round white blotches on a grey horse's coat. We've got an example of them, Aul Platinum, in the Other Markings album, and Tetrarch himself in the Historical album.
