Shimmer foaled and its a............................................

FILLY :bounce :bounce Shimmer got her game face on in the last couple of days and I knew she was going to foal last night. Anyway by 9.30 she was showing signs of being in Labour and by 9.50 there was very little happening so I called my neighbour who I had put on high alert as I knew I would need help. He arrived and then the bubble appeared with just one foot, a few more pushes and I could see the second. My neighbour tried to see if he could get his hand in to feel more but she was just too tight there wasnt any wiggle room. I called the vet so he was on route and would arrive in about 10 mins. Shimmer was tired but then started pushing a little harder and the feet came out enough for me to grab. Got my neighbour to gently pull the top of her vulva up while I pulled down with the contraction and slowly we got her inching out. Shimmer seemed to feel that things were moving so she started giving it everything she had and just pushed and pushed and pushed. Out comes the nose, tongue out and purple (OMG) tore the sack and cleared the nose and nostrils flared (relief). Still a very tight squeeze, I knew we need to get her out asap. Shimmer pushed again and finally we were moving and out comes the head follwed fairly quickly but the rest of her. She is just teeny tiny with a cannon measurement of just over 7" and she is like a china doll. She didnt come out with any extra fat thats for sure - she is a gangly bag of bones. Vet arrived a minute after we had her out. He gave Shimmer a thorough going over (oh and she passed the placenta within a couple of mins while standing up lol) Said he was pleased that there was no damage to her and once he got the hand in he said she was really open. Its just her vulva thats very short. She got an anti inflammatory and antibiotc to cover her and the foal got a tet and antibiotic. She was up within 20 mins and I syringed some milk into her (well she sucked it out of the syringe) just to get her going and she was then actively seeking the milk bar. She is nursing very well but her little legs start shaking with the effort - they are like little pins but she sucks a couple of times and I hear a swallow so I am happy with her. She is black but has a fawny tinge to her coat in areas so was wondering if she might be smokey black?? Curious to hear what you all think. She has the cutest little star and she loves to curl up her little nose.
