Whiskey - lots of pics!

Hey everyone! I haven't been on here very much lately. Some of you might remember Whiskey, the colt that was born in 2009 that tested buckskin and we believe him to be smokey brown. He is now 29 months old and I have started his training under saddle...time flies! Anyhow a few weeks ago all the horses started blowing their summer coats and now winter fluff is coming in. Last year when this happened Whiskey went dark and lost the 3 or 4 white hairs that he had on his rump. Didn't regain them with his summer coat. Well NOW it's a different story! White hairs are coming in like crazy. On his back, belly, flanks, butt. He has a few white mane hairs now and a couple white hairs at his tailhead. You may recall that mom has sabino ticking, with it being heaviest on her back and on the outside of her right hind leg in the top half of the colored area. Mom: [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Chilli/Chilli7-3-…] There is LP in the line of horses they came from but not knowing who Whiskey's sire is doesn't help matters. Just to refresh memories, here's a timeline of pictures of my boy: 2 days old [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/ChillisCo…] 1 month [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey6-…] 3 months [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey8-…] 4 months [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey9-…] 6 months [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey11…] 11 months [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey4-…] 13 months [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey6-…] 14 months - here's where I went WHAT THE HECK? lol [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey7-…] 18 months - so much for that "buckskin" horse [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey11…] 2 years [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey5-…] 2 years 4 months - excuse the awkward pose, I think he was after a fly [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey9-…] Now that you're all caught up on his crazy color here's his left side as of today [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskey10…] And just for the heck of it here's the white hair that's been in his mane the longest (the rest are very short - coming in with winter coat) [IMG]http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r147/RustiZoomZoom/Whiskey/Whiskeysw…] So is it safe to assume that this is sabino ticking coming in? If so why would it be seasonal and erratic? I was really hoping for some appy but he has zero appy characteristics (but stranger things have happened). He also has several darker patches, and several "blonde" patches. I'm assuming the dark patches are where he's scraped the hair off, but they're finer hair/different length than the rest of his coat. The light patches, I have no clue. You can see some of them in the pictures at 4 months, 11 months, and 2 years 4 months. I can get new, close-up pics of the dark and light areas tomorrow if anybody's interested.

:-? We have seen some really dark sooty buckskins, some blotchy smokey browns and blaccks and sometimes we get some that just makes us go "hummmm" - I'd put Whiskey in the latter category. :bounce That sure looks like sabino ticking to me, but you never know... ymwhisle

I noticed one of our paint mares that has a lot of roaning to begin with, had an unusual amount this fall compared to how she normally is. Maybe its just this season.
