Ummm...

He had rainrot in November, it was very mild...is that the culprit? I've NEVER seen rainrot do this before. I always thought it left white lacey patches. Not black spots! The spots are very silky, fine hair...softer and smoother than the surrounding hair. This is as far as I got before my clipper's battery died, sorry lol. I will finish in the morning and take more pics. And just a reminder - this is the colt that tested buckskin, that everyone suspects is smokey brown. It's just two different coats. That happens when one loses hair mid coat change, the new spots come in with the new coat. It'll match when he finishes shedding.

lol...ok...I thought I had a freak of nature there for a minute!

Morgan Thu, 04/08/2010 - 22:59

rofl, I guess you'll have a speckly horse for a while!

Rusti Fri, 04/09/2010 - 00:17

I'll just tell people he's being festive for springtime...lmao.

Well my dear, sweet, lovely cordless Andis clippers decided to die this morning. After being on the charger all night. They ran for 10 seconds. The 12 months warranty was up in December. *sigh*

I'm buying new ones tonight...considering some that have an optional cord...hopefully I'll get him clipped tomorrow.

critterkeeper Fri, 04/09/2010 - 19:32

Man I HATE that...but it's Murphy's Law. :hammer If you don't buy an extended warrantee, it will die the day after the manufacturer's warrantee expires. :BH

Well my electronically gifted fiancee decided to investigate my clippers this morning before I woke up. Upon taking the charger base apart he discovered a small screw that held the wiring from the cord to the charging prongs had come loose. He reattached it, and viola, I now have working clippers again, and he doesn't have to spend $130+ buying me new ones :bounce

See, men can come in handy every now and then - :love
Just don't make the mistake of "telling them" how useful they are... :bounce :rofl

Ok I have another question. I (almost) finished clipping Whiskey today. Gotta touch up his legs tomorrow. So what color should a tested brown, buckskin, whatever color he is, look like when body clipped this time of year? Because right now up close he looks like a silver grulla, just without the dorsal. And from a distance blue roan. And he's clilpped pretty dang short, at first I used the shortest attachment comb and then afterwards went over him with the bare blade to get rid of the clipper lines that the comb teeth left. He has tiny black specks everywhere that look like the "corn" spots that roans get. I didn't get any pics today but once I finish his legs tomorrow I will take good ones.

That doesn't surprise me. Ever clip a true black? They look grulla without the dorsal too. Since he's so dark that fits.

Rusti Sun, 04/11/2010 - 21:16

Nope, I don't have a black horse lol and I never clipped any of my horses until this one. I had no idea that was normal lol.

He almost looks funny chestnut or silver. How funny!

Rusti Sun, 04/11/2010 - 22:11

I know, I took those 2 pics with my dadgum phone and they are a little "off". In real life he's alot more blueish/silvery. I guess cause it was evening, the phone made those pics too red. I'll use my digital camera tomorrow, for sure.

OH, I also discovered several roany patches today hehe. 2 of them are on the back of his front legs where he had the white supposed guard hairs back in the winter. Another on his rump, and one on his jaw.

Morgan Mon, 04/12/2010 - 12:02

looks like you wont have to worry too much about mud, he's exactly the same color. :rofl

Rusti Mon, 04/12/2010 - 21:10

You may say black but he tested to have agouti and cream. I know y'all don't like DNA Diagnostics but I don't see them screwing my results up THAT bad lol.

Anyways I finished up on him today and gave him his first bath (that was fun lol) and then took some pics. I'll get them posted later, gotta go feed dinner at the barn.

I don't trust DNA Diagnostics... but they are right on this boy IMO. His phenotype fits his genotype.
