Tobiano?

Hello all!!! Hope everyone has been keeping well, those of you on my side of the world keeping warm and the rest of you enjoying the sunshine!! Anyway I have a question, well more just interested in seeing what you guys think. I've posted this stallion before ages ago, I've always loved his funky coloured foals. We assumed he had a minimal tobiano pattern, that combined with all the DW/sabino/splash etc gave his funky coloured foals. Anyway he had his colour tests done at last and he's isn't tobiano. It did kind of surprise me, not that the stallion really looks tobiano, but a few of his foals sort of did. So this is the stallion, Natwest. Things that previously made me think tobiano was that bit of supressed white over the tail end of his rump? [IMG]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/37357_152630632013…] This is one of his foals too. There is others, I'll just have to dig them out [IMG]http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/46417_147527271946001_10…] Can you see tobiano, or am I just imagining it from so many patterns anyway? Cheers! Danni

I'd personally have the test redone.

I would also make sure the lab is doing the actual mutation test and not the marker test. I've seen at least one horse who was obviously Tobiano test negative with the marker test. He has since tested positive for Tobiano.

It was done at UKY, they'd be using the mutation test for all samples these days wouldn't they?

I don't think that it is necessarily a lab mistake. Tobiano is a KIT mutation so you could theoretically get another KIT mutation that results in a tobiano like appearance.

That would be pretty cool if it was a completely different loudly expressed KIT mutation! Or do you mean just something like one of the DW's?
