Stay bay or go grey?

I've just been directed to this forum by another friend who also has a strong interest in colour genetics. I'd be interested to hear your initial reactions on whether you think my foal carries grey or not: [img]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/photos-ak-ash1/v122/61/86/66918764…] [img]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/photos-ak-ash1/v113/61/86/66918764…] :)

I thought he would too... I had him tested as a yearling as I was getting impatient to know for definite, and he doesn't carry grey. He's 4yo now, and brown, "At a" probably.

Virtually everybody who's had experience of grey foals was convinced that he was going to go grey due to the dark legs. any ideas what's going on genetically there?

I probably would have said gray too, but it is common for browns to be born like this as well. Its one of the ways to tell a brown foal coat from a bay foal coat. Browns are usually darker, more adult looking and usually with heavier countershading.
