Sabino or Splash?

Just curious. I'm not good determining between the two when it's just a little face and leg white. This is my new girl, Mysti River Gold, a yearling. Her dam is TR Magdalena, purebred Arab, and her sire is the Welsh stallion Rocko's Gold. Sorry, bad photos, first three are from my cell phone and the third was one sent to me when I inquired about her. I think her moving as the phone took the photo made her face distort, it looks crooked haha! Attempted to take photos yesterday but both sets of my rechargeable batteries were dead (oops lol) and then again this morning, but the horses wouldn't leave me alone, followed me around and just wanted breakfast lol! I will try again today. Well, with that cross it could, of course, be both!!
If you want a choice I would plump for Sabino, but I have only very rarely seen a Welsh that even looked as if it did not have Splash as well, and funnily enough Welsh seems to suppress the blue eyes, maybe generations of prejudice form people that also like splashy markings??
She is very pretty in first photo - then in second one - is the picture wonky??
I thought that, too! Teach me to look at photos first and then read! :rofl

Ok, I thought splash with legs and sabino with face, so I"m glad to see others thought so, too :) Here are some pics that show her off much better :)

She is a cute little thing. ...and I like your smile!, you look so proud of her...

Dumb question:
Is the Arab/Welsh cross called anything? Like the way TB/Arabs are called Anglo-Arab?

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 09/11/2009 - 11:48

Welsh/Arabs are called Welaras...at least that's all I've ever heard them called.

she's a real cutie

CheyAut Fri, 09/11/2009 - 19:14

Yup, they are Welaras. To be a Welara, they have to be only Arab and Welsh, but the percentage can vary from 1/8 to 7/8 (so could be 1/8 arab and 7/8 welsh, or 3/4 arab and 1/4 welsh, ect).

What's wrong with welsh/arab ?

Why mash the names together?

I guess Mable would have been a newconnamutly and Mary a Clydes-dales.

rabbitsfizz Fri, 09/18/2009 - 06:33

Not totally sure of the point but have to say my entire PB programme was based on Welsh / Arab crosses, all from the Coed Coch / Rushti lines so all, without exception, totally nuts!!
God I loved riding them, you never knew what was going to happen!! :rofl

She looks very sweet. I agree, most likely both splash & sabino, those socks are very straight edged.

Here is in Australia she could be registered with the Arabian society as an Arabian Pony
& with the Welsh Society as a Part Welsh.

Maigray Sun, 09/20/2009 - 08:52

Oh gosh they have names for everything - Welara, Morab, Pintabian, Araloosa, Quarab, NSH. About the only one that's escaped so far is the WB cross.

Morgan Wed, 09/23/2009 - 15:48

Ali is half arab but I've never called her "pintabian", for some reason that term always makes me think of tobianos :? . I just call her a pinto arab cross (cause I've no idea what the other side is).

Maigray Wed, 09/23/2009 - 16:43

No, the Pintabian actually has to have a certain percentage of Arabian blood - 97 or 98% - something like that. There's a registry and everything. Or there was. Not sure now.

:rofl How come Lace never looks that cute when she's covered her ankles in mud?! :rofl

ah! maybe that explains why I think of tobiano, seems like that would be the easiest and flashiest pattern to breed that with.
