Liver Chestnut right?

Just liver correct? I'm sure somebody has posted this horse before, but I don't feel like looking for it lol. I just got annoyed with the "oh it's a liver chestnut with silver!" uh.... no. Silver doesn't work on chestnuts and it's definitely chestnut. Anyway, can you guys say what the orange mane is about? http://fhotd64476.yuku.com/topic/30209?page=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Humm, Miss Clairol #39? No seriously, orangish mane on a liver is NOT unusual and in mho, I suspect it is caused by flaxen. A reg. red chestnut with flaxen has a blond mane, so why wouldn't flaxen lighten a liver mane to orange?

Ummmm...sun faded (like really bad?!?!)???

I know on my grays that still have a black mane the sun really fades it to a red, sometimes a reddish orange.
Although I've never seen one quite so orange.

I was thinkin that too...looks like someone dyed it!! :laugh1

I think there are two possibilities with "liver" Chestnut....this one is what I call Liver and then there is the "liver" that is just a sooty overlay.
I'd like to see a full genetic workup of one coloured like this....

With this family you can actually see the color increase through the generations, and when they're outcrossed, the color often dims again.

What a gorgeous horse. The color is just icing on the cake. Liver Chestnut is one of my favorite colors on a horse.

This horse reminded me of a friends horse int he 80s called "Sun god" and now I just checked the link on pg 1 and the horses have "sun" in their names , I must assume he is from the family? anyone know?

Is this Lewisfield Sun God you are referring too? If so, he is a Phara Arabian horse. Beautiful beautiful animals they produced. They knew what they were doing.

Im not sure, one of our 4-H leaders had this horse in the 1980s and he was a stallion and he has the red mane on chestnut and all I knew him as was Sun God, I didnt knwo of a "prefix" but there may have been , but he was in Florida if it makes the connection easier.

I just looked on Datasource and Lewisfield Sun God died in 1969 so he can't be the one. There is an El Sun God and an Ibn Sun Dog who's sire is Lewisfield Sun God. Both of them are chestnuts. Could be either one of those two.

P.S. If anyone needs an Arabian or part bred Arabian looked up on Datasource just let me know and I'll be glad to do it for you.

He is indeed a flaxen liver chestnut. His name is Kerry Top Hat, and he is for sale.

Email Denielle and inquire if interested in purchasing him- I see she doesn't have that info on the site yet. She plans to geld him by the end of the month if not sold.

That photo is copyrighted- can I put in a plea that folks just send a link rather than hotlink to someone's picture? Just trying to keep someone from getting into trouble; we do need to respect copyright law :-)

Heather, Phara had a mare, Sun God Heiress, a 1968 model, who produced Sun God Reflection, a 1975 stallion. Perhaps one of those?

Ohh I got someone on my facebook that would know his name possibly! She runs a repro clinic in Ocala and was another one of our 4-H leaders when I was in HS...I will have to message her and see.
