Liver ?

Fledgesflight Tue, 07/14/2009 - 18:48

Liver is difficult to predict in foals...as some darken to look Liver then lose it when the adult coat comes in.

I think it's silver. I'm leaning to brown silver but could be dark bay silver. I do NOT see chestnut.

I think I am tending to agree...it could be Red but I don't think it is, :GTM

I agree with the others - testing alone will tell. This could be liver or it could be the silver working on bay (or brown if you go for the At theory).

Daylene Alford Wed, 07/15/2009 - 10:00

I think dark chestnut or liver. Don't see bay or silver at all.

CheyAut Wed, 07/15/2009 - 12:42

LOVE the color! :) I also am leaning towards silver

Jordie0587 Wed, 07/15/2009 - 14:08

Tough, but I'm going to vote bay silver.

but his legs are sooooo red!

AH! You GOTTA test this one.

rabbitsfizz Wed, 07/15/2009 - 14:22

OK a little help here cos I have little or no experience with Silver in BH's...apart from one mare in my dim and distant youth who was quite obviously Silver (and the ugliest mare I have ever seen!!!)
So, I am leaning towards Silver on gut instinct alone, which has always served me well....so, those who think Silver...why??
I think Silver affecting Bay merely because it just does not look like any chestnut I have ever seen.

accphotography Wed, 07/15/2009 - 15:59

That is just NOT a chestnut head, or mane for me. The ONLY thing I see that looks chestnut is the left hind ankle, and the others don't look like it so I think it's lighting.

I'd love to see this one tested.

Daylene Alford Wed, 07/15/2009 - 16:38

I have seen chestnuts with heads just like that. Especially foals that are shedding.

Heather Wed, 07/15/2009 - 16:48

Ive had a chestnut like that and I have photographs LOL but not in my computer on like old fashion pictures in an album :laugh1 old school pictures ..my scanner isnt hooked up right now, but Im pretty convinced that this is chestnut, if that is silver messin that much with bay, well consider me fell outta chair.

RiddleMeThis Wed, 07/15/2009 - 16:54

For me its not just one thing....its everything combined.

Its the way the shading on the head looks. Its the tone of the body. Its the way the main and tail are shaded. Its many things, but its not JUST those things its the COMBINATION of those things all together.

rabbitsfizz Thu, 07/16/2009 - 02:58

Yes, I can go with that, it's a multifaceted combination of facts....and maybe it's a "rare" chimers that has one Red ankle???? :rofl

I think it's silver brown. I think silver because of where the brownish colouring is (face and legs). It's too clean coloured to be sooty in my opinion. I would expect sooty to be more random over the body yet when you look at that picture, the sides are still red and clear coloured. I think the brown on the face and legs is the true colour starting to show.
