Frame? Or just Sabino

Ok so she's OBVIOUSLY sabino, but do you think this mare could be frame as well? http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j127/horsewoman1/addie08/049.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

VERY, VERY possible. Maybe also splash.

In a Thoroughbred this would all be attributed to dominant white (and could be in this case, but less likely in a Paint).

Ok, so I'm not crazy.... good to know.

ETA: The owner said she had her tested and that she's negative, but I think it's probably BS or she got the samples/results mixed up with the other mares she had tested. I just think this mare is too "FRAME" looking to be negative.

JNFerrigno Thu, 09/23/2010 - 01:02

Why not DW or Sabi and DW? How often do results really get mixed up after all? All the stock registries cross with TB blood any way, but the OP didn't say what breed she was?

I dunno... none of these are frame:

Retesting certainly couldn't hurt, but I do believe it's perfectly possible for her not to be frame. She looks as much dominant white and splash (and probably sabino) as anything else.

Jordie0587 Thu, 09/23/2010 - 01:07

She's APHA. As far as I know, she's not got any TB close up at all. Certainly not anything that was DW (puchilingu etc.).

Danni Thu, 09/23/2010 - 01:14

If she's negative frame I'd certainly believe it, she doesn't necessarily look frame, or not look frame for that matter. Just too much going on to tell.

I suspected this mare could have gone either way (love her patterns)...I agree there is just too much going on. Frame patterns are beautiful, but genetically can be a scary thing as it can hide easily, so I test everything. Doing so revealed not only that my Paint mare was positive, but that I own a frame positive mare that the only white is a 2-inch wide pentagonal star (resembles the Chrystler emblem). I guess what I am trying to say is that with frame, the only way to tell on any animal is to test...anything else is just a turkey shoot.

Well she wouldn't have to have TB to be DW. I've come across several lines of DW in Paints. Do you have her pedigree perhaps? I'd love to trace it.

rabbitsfizz Thu, 09/23/2010 - 11:28

No dark legs....no, I would believe she was not Frame, and I would expect her to have at least a blue eye if she was also Splash, with as much expression and a Red base.....

accphotography Thu, 09/23/2010 - 11:53

Then that certainly implies DW IMO. But I realize this same phenotype used to be called "sabino".

accphotography Fri, 09/24/2010 - 13:43

Not publicly, no. However a sample can be submitted to the DW researchers and they are usually happy to add it to their collection.
