Few Spot or Maximum Sabino???

I thought (assumed) that i had myself a little few spot filly, but the more i think about it, the more i wonder if she is spotted or max sabino........ I have no idea of her breeding and she will only mature around 11.2 hh She has spots on her eyes, inside her ears, inside her nostrils and underneath the sheepy hairdo, there looks to be a spot or two under her forelock and she has spot on her vulva. What are your thoughts? That's a tough call, but to me, imho, her "mottling" looks a bit large for Appy, more like pinto...but I am no appy expert. And where did the blue eyes come from? I suspect either splash or frame...I'd test her for LWO for sure.

Most fewspot foals, even those with the most extreme white, will retain pigmant in their pit areas & around their coronets. I don't see that with this foal. I would hesitate to dub her a fewspot even if I knew both of her parents had LP.

HAVENBEECH STUD Tue, 04/06/2010 - 12:24

Groovy!

I bought her out of a pen of coloured & spotted foals so just presumed she was a fewspot but the more i looked at her the more i thought that wasnt right!

So how would i know more about what patterns she carries?

accphotography Tue, 04/06/2010 - 18:14

It's possible, but she doesn't look DW to me. I personally see splash + tobi + probably frame. You could test for frame and tobi.

accphotography Wed, 04/07/2010 - 11:11

I thought about SB1, but honestly it's just so rare from what I've seen I don't often recommend testing for it unless there is no other plausible explanation.

Sadly DW can't be tested for by the public yet as there are so many mutations they haven't decided how to handle public testing.

HAVENBEECH STUD Wed, 04/07/2010 - 15:05

I did some intensive googling on DW and dont think she is, but splash and or tobi sound pretty convincing!

There isnt a test for Splash yet is there?......

Those of you that have mentioned frame and LWO - is this possible in a filly with no QH/paint breeding etc? I must admit i know very little about these genes? Is LWO prevalent in certain breeds or can it crop up anywhere?

Monsterpony Wed, 04/07/2010 - 15:08

There are several breeds that carry or could potentially carry frame including Minis, thoroughbreds, mustangs, any breed that comes from stockhorse lines and many gaited breeds. Do you have a clue as to her breed?

RiddleMeThis Wed, 04/07/2010 - 17:03
I would guess at welsh/appy lines but none of the breeds mentioned which is a good thing i guess?
If you are just guessing on her breed, its ALWAYS worth it to test for LWO/Frame.

Can i ask why you think you see the above? I am still learning!!!!

HAVENBEECH STUD Mon, 04/12/2010 - 15:22

Her breeder said she was out of 2 spotteds, and she was in a pen full of spotteds - hence we assumed she was few spot looking the way she does...... but i dont think she is, and judging by the responses on here, neither do you guys!

HAVENBEECH STUD Wed, 04/14/2010 - 16:18

No, no pics, or any idea of type etc but this little filly is sooooo dainty and refined, she has the prettiest head and will only make about 11hh by the looks of her :?

Take a really good look at her coronets, see if there's even a small triangle of colour there. While it's true that many fewspots have 'smudging' in the pit area, not all do.

True fewspot (now in Texas)

the "dark" on his back "pit" in the first photo is a combo of shadow/pink skin.

Were there any foal shots of this horse? I didn't see any link.
I don't think she's a fewspot either. Tried to say that yesterday, but this forum rarely lets me post. :x
What happens? Do you get an error? Or?

When you get this problem try restarting your computer. This was happening to me yesterday and a restart solved the problem.

I get logged out every time I try to post. Sometimes I have to log back in half a dozen times (or more) before my post finally goes through. I usually give up after three or four tries.
