dun with or without cream? Test Results! Page 4

I soooo wanted a filly but I guess I take it :laugh1 Not sure what color he is for sure. Dun or grullo. He doesn't appear to have cream eyes but I will test. He has a bit of unfolding to do in the front. This is my last foal for a good while. This mare is 22 now and I gelded the sire. Which was why I wanted a filly so bad but I'll keep the colt.

Yes I do think it's countershading. The color is all wrong for bay dun IMO. The leg bars (and even the dorsal) are not nearly evident enough for me to think dun.

Daddy is a grullo roan.

I'll try to get some try pictures today. At first I thought he was completely solid except for the small star but he seems to have a white strip around his cornet band on back right foot and possibly one on the front right also. His full brother has only the small star and a small white spot on the bottom of his left back foot.

I think I've settled on bay dun. His dorsal is brown rather than black. I'm going to name him Imperial Fire Storm Which is a name I had picked out for last years foal but didn't seem to fit after he got here. He's already hard to photograph as he wants to walk up to you to get petted. Oh yes I I'll back track on the white on the cornet bands it must have been just wet hair because they don't look white this morning. I tried to get a picture of the white hairs under his coat but they didn't turn out.

I took the first one yesterday but the rest I took this morning.

Scratching feels GOOD!!!!

You can see his color pretty good in these What do you guys think Creme or no?

Yes, it is evident in those new pictures.
You do have to bear in mind that, whilst the US requires all the bells and whistles for it to be a "true" Dun, nowhere else does, and we do actually have quite a few Duns in Europe that not only are not Buckskin ( ) but also do not have the leg bars, face masks etc etc that the Americans seem to require.....

Interesting. Much better photos. Definitely appears to be dun now. No question bay based either way. I strongly suspect cream. Can you get another shot of his leg bars? They were one of the reasons I thought not dun... and I have seen some VERY convincing non dun foals.

Well I guess it doesn't really matter either way. I'm trying to decide, if I had to choose, would rather him be just dun or just cream. Dun has always been my favorite color but this is the last chance I'll have for a cream foal out of this mares lines as the daughter I have from her is chestnut. So I guess its a draw. I'm going to keep him for sure!

I'll see if I can't get an additional photo of his leg bars. Its still overcast out side and more rain in the forecast for tomorrow. I'm so ready for some sunshine!

Well I went and took some pictures of his legs but I have to say they are inconclusive. I went and looked at the foal pictures from grullablue.com and some of the dun foals she has pictured have no leg bars what so ever but the body tone doesn't seem right.

Well, Rabbit has no leg bars, I have looked and looked, believe me, and none of his Black Dun offspring have had them, either, whatever "Duncentral" might like to think!!
Neither of the Red Dun fillies I have by him has leg bars or face mask either....so it is another of these, "can be there but does not have to be there" things.
And I can't see either leg bars or mottling, but it must be my monitor if people can see these....
