DUN IT OK

Here is a stallion I REALLY like AQHA DUN IT OK, he is D/D= HZ Dun, E/E= HZ blk and n/Cr carries cream, but look how irridescent his coat is, do any of you think he may carry anything else like champagne? No Champagne. The shimmer is caused by hollow hair shafts and can on other colors besides champagne.

handsome :)

my haflinger has that shimmer to her very chestnut coat...lol Love it..makes her sparkle

So what causes the hollow hairs shafts? is it just random and can be on any color?

His skin and eyes are too dark for champagne. Plus I've seen some pretty flat coated champagnes.

I don't see sooty at all on this guy. Very clear coated IMO.

Yes, theoretically the hollow hair shafts (satin) could be on any color. However I think some horses just have a nice sheen regardless.

It is said to have been something that was naturally selected for in horses that were in hot climates and thought to keep them a little cooler than narrower hair shafts. It's surely genetic not random.

Likely... but possibly recessive or hard to tell based on phenotype as I've seen some that look like they could have it from pretty flat coated parents.

Satin is a perfect word to describe what his coat looks like.........Is this the same kind of coat we see in Akal Teke horses?

accphotography Mon, 05/31/2010 - 17:07

The Akhal Tekes can (I'm not certain ALL do) have satin, yes, that is proven. Whether this horse is satin or merely just really healthy/shiny, who knows.

Any way of getting some hair to me? Like to see the shafts. I love the dorsal STRIPE! Very pronounced!

rodeoratdogs Mon, 06/07/2010 - 17:18

I can ask her to send me some or just send you some, I gave the owner the link to the post because she was interested in the comments. I know I love his dark dorsal stripe on his creamy color. Here is the link to her website.

I love that his dorsal stripe runs down his face. :D

accphotography Mon, 06/07/2010 - 20:45

It's most noticeable in this photo:

There is another photo that shows it REALLY, REALLY well but they no longer have it on their website. I have a copy of it on my computer to refer back to (in case it ever disappeared, like it did)... but I guess I can't post that so I don't guess you'll get to see it.

rodeoratdogs Mon, 06/07/2010 - 22:40

Oh wow, I had seen the first one on the website but I hadn't seen the second before.
