Does he have some roaning going on?

This is Jackz out of my friends mare and by Banner my Buckskin Stallion. My friend when he started to shed was convinced he was going grey which I know he's not so is it some sort of sabino roaning doing this? He also looks to have a small star which wasnt evident when he was born. Here he is a few hrs old [img]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/Miniature%20Horses/Bann…] [img]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/Miniature%20Horses/Bann…] [img]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/Miniature%20Horses/Bann…] [img]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/Miniature%20Horses/Bann…] And this was taken during his foal shed. I have to agree with rf on this one . Don't see anything on banner or jackz that looks like roaning ,just typical bucky colouring and points. Regarding the foals star ,he looks like he has dark hairs on his forehead which have shed to reveal a star ?? Correct me if I am wrong .

both my stallion and his colt have white facial markings that either have appeared or expanded?? kinda as they've gotten older.

My stallion had NO white what so ever when he came to me as a weanling, but after clipping him for show at 5 years old he had a little tiny star...and as the years have gone by it's gotten bigger. now it's the size one would think of as a normal star marking would be.

His colt was born with a distinct star/stipe/snip which has roaned out till you can't almost recognize what it was. Really noticeable too.

but yeah the colt doesn't appear to have been BORN with that white marking :) but it is a mini...so who knows what's up...I've had a few mini's with the mysterious appearing and disappearing spots... keeps life interesting so we keep them around right?? lol

Genetically, yes. Visually... roan can be pretty darned minimal (but it WILL be there, you just have to look).

FWIW I don't necessarily see roan on the kiddo, but I am convinced Banner is roan.

Which photo do you think shows Roan? Banner can you dig some out?
My Grullo mare hardly shows Roan at all, yet she is a true Roan, and has proven it by breeding. Banner tell me again how he is bred?

I can't recall which picture it was but i actually think it may have been a combination of several that caused me to think it. I know we discussed it and I thought for sure you agreed, but maybe not.

I think there's one where he's facing a fence on the left of the photo and is a semi conformation shot... or maybe he's standing along the fence. All I remember for sure is a fence on the left side of the photo and Banner looking very roan.

No Roan in there, possibly, just possibly Sabino roan, from the dam....but I see nothing in any of those pictures to indicate Roan.
The sire is definitely not Roan, and the dam has no actual Roan in either side.

He's so darned pale it's hard to tell. I remember it being more obvious than it appears looking at him now. However, that being said, I DO see a line on his jaw right where the line would be. Has he had many foals?

Bannerminis Fri, 11/19/2010 - 08:10

Jackz the foal posted on this thread was his first and only foal. If you remember Slaney went through some kinda phantom.

He has run with Slaney and Shimmer for this yr so I will be doing blood tests to confirm in January.

Slaney is a Dunalino + sooty?? And Banner has been tested to carry cream, black, red and agouti. I wonder if they could have a smutty buckskin with Slaney having sooty?

Shimmer is homozygous black and has SB1 so "IF" Banner has some sort of Sabino going on could I get a Max white Sabino?? (black based)

A pic of Slaney
