Color?

Darn, that was going to be my answer. :rofl

Geez what a weird one. I'm going to say smokey black silver.

NZ Appaloosas Tue, 10/13/2009 - 01:46

And I'm gonna be really different as say chestnut. Lp can create "white" manes/tails without there being creme or flaxen. I'd expect a more bronzy colour if black were involved.

I agree with all of you.....looks like it carries silver but Diane has a point we all know how LP messes with other colours !

rabbitsfizz Tue, 10/13/2009 - 12:17

I agree, it looks like Silver Bay base, BUT Appy messes with the colours so much, it could just be that.
Test it!!!

CheyAut Tue, 10/13/2009 - 20:19

Silver bay is my guess, too. Will be testing for extension, agouti, cream and silver, will send it off Friday (payday!) to Animal Genetics, so should know early next week (LOVE how quick they are!) :)

What are the chances of champagne here? I know LP causes mottling, however the skin looks really different to me.

I thought that too and am Putting my vote in for champagne

CheyAut Wed, 10/14/2009 - 11:17

The thought crossed my mind (and got me all excited!) but her eyes are dark. I'll go out and double check on her eyes.... She is a shiny girl in the sun (photos didn't pick it up well when uploaded to photobucket)

Yup, definately dark brown eyes. That rules out champagne, right? Well, I pulled hair while I was thinking about it ;)

CheyAut Wed, 10/14/2009 - 12:01

Here are a couple more photos. Best I had for eye color. Then one that shows her mottling down there ;) Hope this works... put them on deviant so they wouldn't get shrunk down by photobucket...

Ok, based on those, is there still a possibility for champagne? If so, I will test for that, too. If not, then I'll save $25 and skip that test ;)

rabbitsfizz Wed, 10/14/2009 - 12:14

I never even considered Champagne as she just does not look Champagne.
I would test for Silver, though, as although I understand what Diane is saying, I do actually think she might be a Silver Bay base.

accphotography Wed, 10/14/2009 - 14:26

Ummmm. I personally would test for champagne just to be certain, but I doubt it now.

The non mottled skin on her tummy SCREAMS cream. I really don't think it's possible she's palomino. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say simple smokey black.

Monsterpony Wed, 10/14/2009 - 15:08

I am seeing chestnut with flaxen or appy-induced mane. I have been informally studying red-based skin color (chestnut vs. palomino) and the skin on the belly looks more chestnut to me.

Normally I would agree. You and I are seeing the same thing for sure, just interpreting it somewhat differently. On a non app I would say that skin was palomino all the way (although I have seen similar skin on plain chestnuts). However on an app and with that odd chocolatey tone, I see it differently.

This is a tested smokey black appy:

Still see Silver Bay, which is often confused with Chestnut, especially in Minis.

CheyAut Tue, 10/20/2009 - 17:21

Results are in! My guess was correct, she's a silver bay!

Don't forget the pic of the appy I had shown in the 80s that was from a bay abd sorrell, helooked like a silver, but not known lines of it and long gone as far as I know...he would be like 25+ if alive still

rabbitsfizz Wed, 10/21/2009 - 12:21

Well, I guess I got that one right then...... :rofl :booty :booty
