Chestnut Mini???

I'm pretty confident that my mini is Chestnut and probably from what i've looked for, minimal roan. His Dam didn't show true roan characteristics but has considerably more roaning then he does. The other things that strike me as weird are that his tail is WHITE! but his mane and forelock are 1 shade lighter then his body color. The last thing that strikes me as different is that the skin UNDER his hair, and any other places that aren't readily visible are PINK/Tan with little black freckles... i was interested to see if ya'll think something besides just chestnut and maybe roan? I'll upload some updated pics next, of his "roaning" and under his tail which shows his skin best :)

Your first guess also looks correct, you can have various shades in a Chestnuts mane and tail including black...cute little one !

here is some pictures i took of him yesterday... i was hoping to catch the roaning but it's hard to see :) I'm curious about his skin color...i should really shave him in a spot that isn't readily visible to see if it's really that pink color like under his tail. I suspect it it because his underside (between his back legs) and such are all that color. Could the white in his tail and various pink spots of skin, plus the roaning be part of a minimal pinto thing i got from his dad??

yeah, i do.
Sire is a solid bay out of 2 pinto parents, so the pinto gene COULD be there, he has some characteristics.
Dam is a roan, but not the classic roan, though she has thrown them.

Sire is solid bay, I see no Pinto. Colt/gelding is Sabino roan, it always shows most on Red base, and even more on Red Male base.
Dame is also Sabino roan.

I agree, mare and her son are chestnuts with sabino roaning. Sire is seal brown. The mottled skin you are seeing is common in chestnuts.
