Black/Smokey Black/Blue Dun?

The Sire was a palomino and the Dam was buckskin and is in the pictures. All I know is the Dam's father was Black.

The foal looks black or perhaps smokey black to me. That is a very common color for black foals. You can't really be sure about cream without testing but considering both parents carry cream there is a good chance the foal does.

Is it common for black foal to show some faint leg barring? He also has a very sharp dorsal stripe which I read was common on black foal.

Yes, it is fairly common. I had a black foal born years ago that was much "grayer" than this foal, had a very distinct dorsal, shoulder bars, and leg bars. He had no dun in his pedigree and shed off coal black. I wish I had a photo of him but I don't.
