Bay or Chestnut

I am undecided on what colour my foal is. When she was born I was convinced she was Bay (wishful thinking maybe) then i thought nope chestnut but now I think bay again. i wish I could make up my mind.LOL Belle at 1 week old. Belle at 6.5 weeks old She is now 7 weeks old and her mane now appears mostly black and so does her tail but she still has no black on her legs (around her knees and hocks) Her dad is a chestnut with a light taffy coloured mane and a tail that looks grey with some red through it, mum is a bay/brown. She is an american saddlebred. Thanks for your help :)

Welcome. your post account is now activated and you can post away.

Your foal looks like a normal bay with 4 white socks which is covering up the black, it may even be a wild bay which is why you can't see any black at all. :flower :flower

looks like a bay baby to me :D She sure is a cutie.

Not a bay foal, but a friend of mine had a buckskin foal that didn't show the black on her legs until she was 4-5 months old and shed out her foal coat completely

Pretty sure she is a Bay...may turn out to be Wild, may just be a "late bloomer"!!
Nice filly, and I think I agree, I would prefer her in Bay, too!

Bay, and most of the bay or bay based foals I have ever seen never had black legs when they were born.

Agreed. Some bay's points don't reach their knees and hocks until their 3 year old year.

We had a little buckskin that still did not have full points at 3, but I have not seen him since to be able to tell if he was a wild buckskin or not.

Thanks for the replies :) I had a close look at her eyelashes and they look black to me so YAY she is a bay.

I have a gelding that I bred he is 2yo in January and he is 75% Saddlebred and he is a wild bay, he has a black mane and tail and ear tips but his legs are chocolate coloured like a buckskin instead of black. His mum is a real dark bay and his dad is a deep mahogany bay so I do not know why he turned out weird.
He is not related to this filly either.

Being wild bay or Not really has nothing to do with the color of the points but rather where the points stop. So even if her points are brown, if they go all the way up she's Not a wild bay.

Does your name start with J? If so it's Simi here (with the partbred pale pally)
