Whiskey's test results

Finally got 'em, I'm so excited!!! LOL...ok am I reading these wrong or are they saying he's buckskin? Ee Aa crCr = buckskin. Correct? Is there any way to know if they meant A or At? As in, making him a seal brown like some people had thought he'd be? And what does "Don'tCall" mean? Obviously he's not Sabino or Tobiano so it doesn't really matter, just curious. Oh, and he was negative on all the diseases. Yay! Physical Characteristics: Champagne-CH -/- CREAM-CRE -/Cr E____AGOUTI_10 A/ HORSE_RED-MC1R E/e SABINO-SABI Don'tCall SILVERH-SILH -/- TOBIANO-TOB Don'tCall

I have NOOO idea what the "Dont Call" means but it sure sounds rude. :rofl

Yes, that test result means "buckskin" with THAT test. However there is no way in you know where he is truly a buckskin. He is either a smokey brown (you'd have to test for brown) or the test is wrong and his is smokey black. I would have NEVER believed that horse had agouti... so if he really does, it's the brown version for sure.

Don't suppose you'd be willing to test him for brown?

Ok never mind. I just went back and looked at his photos after clipping and his later photos... yeah I would have called that smokey brown. Clear light rings around the eyes and nose and they're of that tan/blonde color I've come to expect on a smokey brown. I'm certain that's what he is. You could test, but it would just be to prove it.

Since brown is considered a variation of bay, wouldn't smokey brown just be another way of saying buckskin? Is the brown you're referring to seal brown? This is where I get confused lol. I don't see why he can't just be a sooty buckskin.

ETA nevermind I just re-read your first reply lol. Like I said I'm confused.

accphotography Wed, 02/24/2010 - 20:23

Because sooty buckskin doesn't look like that. That is the phenotype of brown. And yes brown = seal brown = seal bay. It's all the same.

accphotography Wed, 02/24/2010 - 20:40

If you think there's a chance he's sooty buckskin you could have him tested for brown just to know. But I've seen a very large number of tested smokey browns and he fits right in with them.

Just some stuff for you to look at:

http://duncentralstation.com/LAL-Marana…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(look at the ones they've called brown, and there are a few plain sooty examples too)
http://colormorgans.tripod.com/buckskin…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(phenotypically proven between himself and his foals from black mares)
http://zeefroggie.com/Pages/Horses/Yeag…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the foals

Notice that the only clear bay or clear buckskin foals are out of clear bay (or chestnut, which is understandable) dams. Also take a look at how similar your guy is to Brockvagas at the bottom.

Wow they are identical! Thanks for the links, you must have read my mind because I was just now trying to search for pictures of other smokey seal browns and having no luck. Whiskey went through that weird "red" looking stage after I clipped him, right before he started growing his winter coat.

Same rings around the eyes, nose and back of the ears. He's out of a black mare too so he could only have gotten his agouti from dad, which means he has the same type... which means he's brown based.
Did you test him for frame?
No, it wasn't included, unless you mean LWO, and he was negative.

TwinCreeksFarm Sat, 02/27/2010 - 13:22

Yeah, LWO is frame. Now I'm really interested in testing my yearling.. I can't decide if he is black, with appy messing him up, or if he literally just brown. He looks like dark chocolate. Correction, a dark chocolate yak!
