Spotted foal from non spotted parents?

Re: Spotted foal from non spotted parents?
So is PATN the white part that makes appys? This mare doesn't have a white hair on her which made me think even if she did have any spotting genes maybe it couldn't express? Which made me wonder if horses of non spotted breeding would have the 'white' part??
edit: One more question, to have LP, they would usually have all the characteristics, even if minimal? Like sclera etc..? Or is it the PATN gene that does that??
Re: Spotted foal from non spotted parents?
I'm afraid I can't help you too much with this question about stiped hooves on cream horses as all mine have solid hooves: Goldies are dark grey/slate colored, Delights are still light grey, but will darken just like Goldies (whose were the same color at that age) and Luna (cremello) has solid white hooves - no stipes.
Now I do have several "solid" QHs that have "some stripes" on them, but that is due to having "white" around the hooves in question (sometimes its just a small spot).
Re: Spotted foal from non spotted parents?
Pretty certain those are very common Ben Dor spots that Palominos seem to get a lot of (some Palominos) also, Palominos often have striped hooves, all mine did as adults. Not the obvious "black and white" striping you get with Appy, but the buff hoof colour and ivory hoof colour.
So, no, having had a Palomino base near Leopard, she looks nothing like it at all.
Re: Spotted foal from non spotted parents?
This is the mare, although you can't see her spots very well. I saw her yesterday and she has a few more now up her neck too. But what I was really trying to understand was, if she had no characteristics, could she still have a spotted foal? (assuming sire as no spotty genetics at all)
