SPLASH Thoroughbreds!!

One of them FOR SURE. It is not common I find a splash TB that I KNOW is splash. In fact, I've maybe only ever seen two or three. This first one I KNOW. The second one I am pretty darned sure about (he has a brother with a bald face and blue eye so I know the line is capable). How many blue eyed (non frame) TBs can you say you've seen!?!? I couldn't have been more excited to happen across this one (both of them really)! :D:D:D The other splash I promised in the other thread. No hiding who he is. It's OBVIOUS by looking at his pedigree where his white came from. I knew who his sire was the moment I saw him. It's the one above that shocked me. Speaking as someone who would rather leave TBs than take them (Arab person, me) I really do like that Bay boy, he is one handsome lad and the patterning just adds to the allure. He is also very photogenic!
I am assuming these are too high priced for someone to take them out of the racing pool and show them?
Although, in two years time they could well be in a kill pen somewhere.
*sigh*

I agree the bay would make a really pretty show horse and I'm a western rider. I take it they are yearlings? He looks like he'll grow up real nice. Take him to Pinto shows where he'd be appreciated.

I do not get it....how does what a horse looks like affect it's ability to run :sign ??
Over here, a horse like that would do no good in show classes....guess why :rofl
Yes, too much white!
It scares the Judges, well, that is my theory, anyway.
Basically some of them are so old they need certificates to prove they are still alive and so anything that wakes them up is not good...I kid you not, at one show the Judge asked us to come in round her on a small circle (we were already working round the problem that she could not move and was stuck in the centre of the ring on a shooting stick) as she....wait for it, wait for it....COULD NOT SEE VERY FAR!!!!
I reckon I could have been showing a pretty goat that day, it would not have mattered. Didn't matter anyway as it turned out she was judging the handlers anyway, and could see well enough to see their faces......

Yeah, who was it that wrote (back in the day, 1800s/early 1900s) that one should not breed to grey TBs because the grey gene made them slower!

Yeah... really. Tell that to Holy Bull, Skip Sway, Silver Charm, Eight Belles, Winning Colors, Alphabet Soup, Lit De Justice.............

So what is it beside odd color patter that makes you think the chestnut is splash? Unless it's the photo, I'm not seeing any blue in the eyes?

Krickette Sun, 09/26/2010 - 22:44

Very nice! Love how clean the lines are on the chestnut's markings, if that makes sense...not all jagged and such. And the bay is an absolute stunner! I'd take him in a heartbeat

Danni Sun, 09/26/2010 - 22:55
No, no blue. It IS the odd color pattern. Do we need more?
Yeh, looks splash to me! I'm with everyone else too, that bay is really very nice!

Very pretty splash TBs. :love

I sometimes think that the old myth that white feet are more fragile than colored feet may have in some way supported the breeding for suppressed white patterns in racing TBs back in the day.

Anything to increase the odds for a winning horse right ;-)

accphotography Mon, 09/27/2010 - 21:58

Absolutely!! I know people that KNOW better than to think white hooves are more susceptible and STILL rule a horse out do to several white feet. Old habits and beliefs die hard.
