Rabicano Arabian

Just thought I'd share some photos of this quite interesting arabian gelding! His sire has thrown a lot of quite colourful offspring. He himself was grey, and I never saw him before he had completely greyed out, but he did have 4 white hooves and facial markings. Almost all of his offsprings got flaxen manes, high whites (and quite "odd" and unique, not just large) facial markings and leg markings as well as rabicano characteristics like white hair at the root of the tails/sides. This particular one caught my eye though. Adding the depigmentation and the odd leg marking made him stand out even more. Might add a question when I'm at it... I spoke with a lady who's working as the ranch who had had a veterinarian tell her that it wasn't strange that the gelding had depigmentation since he was flaxen. He thought that there was a connection between flaxen and vitiligo. I've never heard of that before and found it a bit odd and would just like to hear if there's anyone else here who knows weather there's a connection between the two? Sounds a bit strange to me. I've heard that it was supposed to be more common in Egyptians, but then again I've never heard of any real studies... The first two photos are recent, and the last two are from 2008. He was born 2005.

I've never heard of it being more common in flaxens but more often in grays. Then again there is gray vitilgo depigmentation and non gray vitiligo which look similar but are thought to have separate causes from what I've read.

Never heard of Arabian Fading Syndrome... To Google!

There is a paper on vitiligo not related to grey or Arabian. It discussed nutrition as a major factor. I am pretty sure I have something on Arabian vitiligo somewhere. Grey vitiligo is well documented in many of the papers on greys.
