question on linkage-extensions

Hi, I have a really silly question.. please bear with me  I basically understand the linkage with extension-but does this apply to dilution genes as well..? For example- can dun be linked together with a white pattern or an extension? Or even a modifier? Or is it only white patterns and extensions-- example E-Tobi e-Roan?? I know I am probably embarrassing myself but I am still learning

LOL, no you're not embarrassing yourself at all. Many long time genetics interested people still don't understand linkage.

Any gene can be linked to any other gene. However, so far they have only found one locus linked to another locus that effects color and that's extension and KIT. So extension is linked to everything on KIT (11+ dominant whites, roan, tobiano and sabino1).

It's very possible we may learn of other linkages in the future, but as of now no others are known to my knowledge.

Linkage depends on what chromosomes the different color genes are found on. If they are located on the same chromosome, then linkage likely exists of some degree depending how close they are. If they are on separate chromosomes, then linkage wouldn't occur.

Is there an official percentage for the crossover rate of linked alleles on KIT? I've heard 97-98% before, but I don't know what the accepted percentage rate is.
