Paint mare -- what pattern(s)?

TheRedHayflinger requested that I post this mare to see what pattern(s) ya'll think she carries. She is a 12yo APHA registered mare, born a twin, and as a result, very stunted in height. Her sire and dam were both chestnut tobianos. APHA registered her as a red roan tobiano, which is not genetically possible, but not worth arguing. She is not breeding stock. She was born with this color--white hairs are not increasing with age. I see tobi in the neck marking and the quarters.

Though I don't see it as such and I'm sure it doesn't need saying again - test for frame before breeding please.

Sabino and splash! The way the white is staying off the chest, I must admit it does look Tobi. It and splash having the "argument". We had a homozygous tobi (tested) once that was posted here that had not a lick of phenotypical Tobi - I think he had a snip and sock. That was it. Tobi doesn't usually hide, but it can!

Ok im slightly confused are people saying this mare ISN'T tobi??

The mare imo is definitely tobiano. the roaning is probably sabino but I wouldnt rule out rabicano.

RMT is not one to beat around the bush! If ShaydedBleu had not specifically stated it was impossible, I'm sure that would be in there - O wait, it's the roan that's impossible.

Edited for mis-reading! I thought the Tobi was stated as impossible, but it's the roan! Roan is impossible. I like the rabi theory with tobi and perhaps all patterns but frame - sabino and splash too.

are we even looking at the same post???

OP says right on the first post that this mares sire and dam are BOTH chestnut tobiano. the impossible part on that would be the ROAN.

Yes, it is the roan that I was indicating is genetically impossible, as both parents were very clearly chestnut. This mare's dam was actually registered as a tovero (medicine hat, chest shield, and one large irregular splotch on each flank), but the sire was 50/50 chestnut/white (if I remember correctly).

Sabino was my first thought as well. I'm interested in knowing what about her indicates each of the traits (splash, sabino, tobi, etc.) I'm trying to learn! :)

Edited to ask: I know I've heard that sabino roaning increases with age, which is why I pointed out that she was born this way, and her coloring has not changed. Is that not true, not true in all cases, or...???

RF- Thank you! We're quite partial to her--she is owned by my mother, and was the first foal we ever bred/raised. She has found her niche as a barrel pony, and my daughter will move up to her from her pony next show season.

lillith- She is not going to be bred. She's the unofficial mascot of the farm, and will spend her life as such. She has nothing to prove. I only posted her because I'm interested in learning more about patterns and genetics, and I think she has neat coloring. ;-)
