Odd possible dominant white variant...

His dam certainly didn't contribute anything and his sire is dominant white. It's possible the sire has something else, but I'd think unlikely. So this would just be an odd presentation of DW. This is one of the reasons I say it mimics splash well.

That depends how you feel about splash in Thoroughbreds. Some are adamant it only exists in one line (and that line is NOT tied to this one in any way). I haven't seen any blue eyes or CLEAR splash horses from this line either. The most I can say is one single paternal half brother to this stallion has a tiny little blue fleck in his eye (that his owner is not even sure has always been there). That has be the only possible "real" evidence of splash in the line.

On the other hand, the loudest splash TB stallion standing today is also a paternal half brother to this foal's sire. However his dam was CLEARLY a splash (and from the known splash line). There is some thought that stallion could be homozygous, thus proving his sire is splash, but it would just be a guess at this point.

I didn't know Splash was supposed to be rare in TB's.
They don't have to have blue eyes to be splash though.
I have seen TB's here that look splash, no idea of their lines though.

This fellow is racing at the moment & very well known here because of his markings, he is a multiple group one winner too.
Would you say he looks splash as well as sabino??? If you google Apache Cat there are heaps of pics of him.

I have a couple of others, but can't post them because they are not my photos.

I've definitely seen more of it Down Under than here. It is exceedingly rare and some people think it doesn't even exist.

I realize an individual splash doesn't have to have blue eyes, but we're talking about hundreds of horses from this line and only one with even a hint of blue in it's eye (and it's possibly an injury). You would think in a large sampling at least one or two would happen.

:rofl LOL, now that's pretty funny, a flashy pattern being rare in the US. We don't have cream or frame in TB's here.
Well, until someone imported a frame from the US last year. OUr TB studbook actually used to state no cream or broken colours allowed.
Wonder what they are going to do with the progeny by this imported stallion.

Hmm, I don't actually think blue eyes are that common in splash, just my observations anyway.

I've seen very minimal splashes with blue eyes, but I am surprised that none of our paints have even partial blues with how splashy they are but I suppose the sabino and tobiano are suppressing the blues.

The sire and dam could both carry splash/sabino, especially if dominant white is masking it. But it might be dominant white - think of the founder of the Patchen family, the stallion Kentucky Colonel, who was supposed to have traditional socks and a blaze and a belly spot. He sired two dominant white horses, so he carried the mutation himself. There might also be something else going on.

I'm leaning to that side too now. The phenotype is just TOOO classic dominant white to me. Not to mention, theoretically, an SB1 should either be minimally marked or all white.
