I never would have guessed...

Black. Gee that helps. :rofl I was hoping to see if he was sooty.

Did you ever hear back from Dr. Michal about testing her for brown? I'm still on the fence on her (though her foal color fits the typical).

They remind me of my pale pally boy Saxon -

He looks to have a slight reddish tinge here but it's just the afternoon sun.

His sire, who I was told by Saxon's breeder is Perlino. ACC stated ages ago that she thought he could be smokey cream. Not long ago, I found someone else that used this sire over their mare, before Saxon's breeder ended up with him and he stated he was a smokey cream :ymsmug: (hehe well done I'm thinking ACC). I believe it to be quite likely as I remember once referring to a smokey cream and Saxon's owner saying perlino and smokey cream are the same thing. I didn't bother to go into an agouti discussion.

[img]http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a386/…]

This is his dam - I was told she was a silver bay by Saxon's breeder but I remember ACC thinking she could be silver black or silver brown. I kind of lean towards that because I know Saxon's breeder tested for red (she has one copy) but I doubt she tested for agouti as she never mentioned it.

Very untypical, but certainly not deserving of yet another "super speshil rare" name!
I do prefer my Palominos to actually look Palomino, though!
Saves having to drag out the colour test every time you say that's what they are.

I will charge up the camera tonight (if the storms will ever stop) and get new photos of Delight tomorrow to show the drastic changes in her coat color.

Those of you who've seen her foaling pixs remember what a light creamy pali color she was? Well right now you would think she was 2 different colored horses. The top 1/2 is still creamy with the mane starting to turn a pretty white, but her bottom 1/2 is so sooty she looks like a black-based dapple grey.

I guess this goes toward answering the question of wether Valley is such a dark chestnut due to sooty factor. Could add fuel to the sooty to the liver chestnut discussions. I am pretty sure that the sooty had to come from Valley as Goldie is such a clear deep golden color with no sign of sooty at all. Once Maya drops her current foal (soon, soon, hopefully SOON) I will have more "proof" for comparing the two fillies (oh all indicators say this foal is a filly too - wtg Luna).

Yes, I can imagine in the future I will have to point out to some people that Saxon is a pally and is not grey
I had a person awhile ago, though they owned horses knew very little about horse genetics. They thought I had been fooled and my boy was grey.
I tried to explain that he had no grey parent which they didn't get. I then pointed out, had they ever seen a grey yearling that white at that age and he agreed no. Mind you, this is the same person who thought my buckskin was grey, due to his winter coat and white hairs lol.

We had one at the riding school like that but he was seasonal, obvious light palomino in the summer and grey looking in the winter. Very cool.

I think you're right dakota. She doesn't look like a typical perlino youngster to me.
Either she is a pale buckskin or those photos are very misleading!

dakotakdq Mon, 07/19/2010 - 20:35

thats what i thought too, pity they even reg her as a perlino :-( I was interested till I realsied she wasnt, thou I still do quite like her a lot! (im on the lookout for a DD QH filly)
