Dun looking Purebred Arab foal

Not sure I'd say he looks dun but I love how the primative markings can be so clear on the babies. Nice foal, congratulations!

He does look it....even some adult arabs look to have it, but it's countershading. What are the bloodlines? Just curious!

What did they ever decide about the spanish horses that have so much of the primative markings? I mean they don't really look dun, but the primative markings could really stand out. They were testing to see if it was another sort of dun?? I would have thought they weren't dun but just that the primative markings were more obvious on them?

I've even seen shoulder and legbars on arabians that are not 'dun' so that is an interesting theory.

My Cytosk mare has a dorsal stripe, shoulder bars and leg stripes in the spring. If we get to a point where they need not dun horses to test for this I'll volunteer her hairs.

I'd say not dun, but a darn good mimic. Although even if I knew dun was possible I still might question it. Something is just not quite right about it. I will say I do believe this is a BROWN foal, and I've seen shocking countershading on brown foals (mostly TBs).

I was thinking this foal might shed out to be the color the Arab people call black bay.

Maybe in America, ACC, in Europe it is also called Black Bay in TBs :rofl

Both the American JC and Weatherbys call "black bays" brown.

I've always called them black bays regardless of breed, but, I'm an aye-Rab person....

I have a photo of the stripes on her legs somewhere, i will post it later. Someone on another forum has told me that Deemonstrator's sire and half sister also have dorsal stripes. I do have another foal (bay) by this stallion out of an appaloosa mare and he too has a dorsal stripe but not as clear as this colt foal.
