Did Splash cause this blue eye?

HI guys, just cos I can ask... Here is a solid Appy gelding he is a Grulla. Blue eye?? Would it be the splash gene/ sabino? Many in this horse's family have big white face mask and blue eyes... No frame ... No Paint breeding in his line. The only white is what you see on the back legs, 2 small socks and he has a small spot/swirl on middle of forehead :) Sorry if I am repeating a question thats been covered. This splash gene can pop up in lots of breeds?? True??

Yes. Looks like it based on the sock. Unless it points up in the front.
why what does that indicate ?
Pointing up would indicate sabino. Flat topped would indicate splash. HOWEVER, if you have a splash flat topped sock, who's to say that adding sabino won't then point IT up?

So Splash seems to be the cause.. His sire is a horse called Mighty Bright Lad and his grandsire Mighty Storm Song so I reckon this might be the right family line for the Splash gene to come thru. He only has a small star/swirl on the middle of his forehead, I have added a clearer pic. Do Sabino's always have the milk spot on the chin/lower lip?
Thanks :D

I had a jet black mare with two bright blue eyes, no white anywhere that we could see (but we had neither a speculum nor a very bright torch :rofl )
She is Great Aunt to my mare who, just t be different, has no blue eyes and a small white star!
I consider both to be Splash.

I'd just like to add that, while your boy is splash, you can't rule out the lethal white overo gene in lines just because there is no paint blood in them. There are plenty of breeds out there that carry LWO and it hides easily in solid horses.
