Describing Roans...

What is your take on the color descriptions "blue roan", "red roan" here - seems to me like the first horses are brown roan and the last one is a bay roan, not red=chestnut... I think those descriptions are misleading. http://www.wychequarterhorses.com/stallions.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The quarter horse world for a long time only used red roan and blue roan so anything that was bay roan was placed into one of those two categories depending on how dark it was. Bright bays were called red and dark bays/browns were called blue. It definitely makes figuring out some pedigree stuff annoying like seeing a red roanXsorrel cross that produces a black or bay foal.

in the UK the chestnuts are still known as strawberry roans and some people call them pink - there is no educating these people I might add !!! :hammer
