I have been volunteering for a small local RDA, they only have two horses of their own and borrow a few more from the committee and the riding school where they are based. I might not be going back due to needing more hours at work :(
Anyway, I have always liked the colouring of this boy, Finn. He is supposed to be an ID cross but he is quite large and heavy so maybe purebred? He is quite old, over 20 anyway. The dark shading/sooty is more concentrated underneath rather than on top, and up close looks like a true chocolate colour, not black or blackish.
A bit fat from a couple of months in a very large, lush field.

Re: Dark chestnut RDA horse.
So what about this horse?

I posted him before thinking he was liver but everyone said he was chestnut :-??
He looks pretty similar to me except the first horse has a dark belly and mane and tail.
Re: Dark chestnut RDA horse.
I love that color. I have kind of noticed that darker shading seems to start with the legs, mane, and tail, but I theorize you can't see it on black/bay horses since those parts are black anyway.
