Technical Question on Adding Photos

Technical question - if we do add photos to an album, and want to link to another website for credit, how are you creating the link text? So far I've only tried uploading straight from the web browser. Has anyone used the Gallery 2 or Picasa options? How are they working?

ACC was having trouble with loading images yesterday. The permissions set wouldn't let her edit what she had uploaded. If anyone else has these problems let me know so I can fix it.

To create the url's the code is
Equine Color
As far as uploading...I actually haven't tried the picasa option as I have picasa 3 not 2 so I'm not sure if it works correctly or not.

The windows option works good but you have to go in later and add all your caption information manually. I usually use this option if I'm loading a bunch of photos to one album then edit all the captions from the album at once.

From a web page works good (it allows you to import images from the web rather then uploading them from you computer)....most of the time. I've had a bit of trouble with it not creating thumbnails.

From local server is for me as I can ftp images to the server and then import them.

There is a remote app that I've tried several times to get to work but so far haven't had any luck with it so atm its turned off. It keeps giving me an error message then I try to upload.

Oh great, thanks for the info. I was slightly worried as I also wasn't getting an edit option and then I thought, lord, if I make a mistake, it's going to be a big problem trying to reverse it. I'll work on the other options. I also shied away from Picasa for the same reason you did and the Windows option did not want to work for me at all.

Lol ya...Here's another think I forgot to mention....It automatically adds the photo name as the title. To me its easier to change the photo name on my computer and then upload the file and at the caption. Then I don't have to go back and manually edit anything especially when I'm only adding one photo at a time.

Yeah I think it would be a good idea if we went through and renamed all the titles to either the horse's name or what they are (horse's name makes more sense IMO). I would be willing to volunteer for that as well as I know it's tedious.

accphotography Sun, 06/28/2009 - 22:31

I think there may be some that don't have names or descriptors really too. I saw a few last night that I was scratching my head on (member added I'm sure). I suspect it would be easy enough to trace any one that we don't know though.

I still want to know which champagnes are which colors. :laugh1 The golds and gold cream are easy enough, and the one obvious classic is easy enough, but some of them really left me guessing.

Question - how much should we crosspost between albums? I noticed the chestnut and flaxen albums had many of the same horses, so I automatically crossposted the flaxens I put in. But how far do we take it?

For instance, should we crosspost all the horses with their base coat colors? Not true base coats, but, for instance, palominos with sooty - should they go in the Cream album and the Sooty album? Should all the flaxens go in the Chestnut? All the sabinos also go in their respective base coat albums? All the other white patterns as well?

Daylene Alford Mon, 06/29/2009 - 09:35

Trying to cross post everything would be an awful lot of work. As long as we have a good variety of examples for the base color I wouldn't worry about cross posting for everything. Unless you really really want to. :rofl

I think most of the photos that don't have titles Monsterpony uploaded. Now that I know you two couldn't edit I'm thinking probably she couldn't either when she uploaded them.

The champagnes colors are listed. All except a two and I changed those this morning.

Monsterpony Mon, 06/29/2009 - 19:30

Yep, I tried to edit them, but I'd already uploaded most of them before realizing the titles looked terrible. Also, a lot of the duplicate photos are mine from when I was trying to bulk up the number of photos in each album. A couple of my chestnuts could probably be pulled from the album as they look more sabino than solid.

accphotography Mon, 06/29/2009 - 21:19

Well we do need a variety of chestnut shades regardless of pattern IMO.

No worries about the titles. It wouldn't let anyone but Daylene edit them. One or all of us will get them all prettified eventually.

Oh and I deleted whatever duplicates I saw when I organized so that should be fixed.

Maigray Wed, 07/01/2009 - 23:19

By the way, anyone feel free to crosspost any photos I put up if you like. I just can't face crossposting all of them to all their different categories any time soon.

Monsterpony Sun, 07/12/2009 - 02:52

I have been trying to work on fixing photo titles for the last few days, but I haven't been able to sign on to the website. Probably three days ago, I was able to get on a fix a few titles, but since then, every time I type my log in info into the fields, I am never logged in. Advice anyone?

Monsterpony Sun, 07/12/2009 - 03:07

Okay, I think that worked. But now I am wondering what should the titles to the photos be so that they are more uniform? The color of the horse? Name of the horse? Breed?

accphotography Sun, 07/12/2009 - 04:14

I was putting the horse name in the title and then the description in the description. I wouldn't want the titles to be too long, but I wouldn't want to cut the description short. Not to mention I like it to be clear right off the bat if there's more than one photo of the same horse.

But that's Daylene's call.

Monsterpony Fri, 07/24/2009 - 18:45

I'd say no because I don't think we should advertise a "gene" that is not proven to exist and there is more than one explanation as to the cause of that horses "unique" color.

accphotography Fri, 07/24/2009 - 23:01

I don't think we have to advertise that he is platinum. All we have to do is say is that he is tested Ee aa zz and that his mane and tail may be due to sabino or another, as of yet unidentified, gene.

accphotography Sat, 07/25/2009 - 13:00

Well there's no need to even mention platinum, much less say he isn't. I realize they are hardcore, but surely they would be ok with saying he may have an unidentified gene. Surely they don't just expect everyone to automatically accept their own creation.
