Forums

I had to clean up after three spammers in the last few hours; two with a large amount of posts using very similar information. Is there a problem in the security system?

Its The same as its always been. If they are live people the questions won't keep them out unfortunately. I will do some research though its entirely possible that the "bots" have gotten smarter.

I just installed a new captcha system so we'll see if it locks the jerks out.

I checked and the user who's post you deleted lipi had registered before I installed the new captcha. There're quite a new users who registered the the past week who are probably spammers but I don't want to delete them for fear I'll get a real user.

I went ahead and set it up where new users first 2 posts have to be approved. I don't like having to do that but at least it will keep the spam off the board

I just went through and cleaned out all the spam profiles (~10 of them) so anything new will have gotten through the new system.

I just played ring-around-the-rosy with one. They were posting spam as I was online, so I deleted their profile.

I attempted to install a spam contol feature this morning but got an error on my test pc but got an error. Ill try again tomarrow.

I finally found a spam control mod that actually installed on my test pc without giving me an error so I installed it here. It is supposed to check against DNS blacklists and block registrations we'll just have to see how it works.

If you notice the board slowing down let me know its says that can be one of the side affects.

Well it looks like its working. We haven't had any new registrations since last night when I created a test account. My registration went through fine so hopefully we won't be blocking any people who truly want to register.

What a pain in the A** this has been.

I have only found one spam account since you added the new security and the account hadn't been able to post. I just chanced across it in a quick scan of the new members.
