Links for photo credit

I've been thinking about this for some time and would like opinions. I'm considering dropping the links to websites in the photo credits for all new photos on the site. The problem is we have so many photos that the links are becoming difficult to police and any broken links affect your page rank. I went through the other day and removed a bunch that were broken. Plus I've learned that google can penalize a site if they have to many out going links (and we have tons). We would still provide photo credit just sans the website link. Opinions?

I guess it would depend on who provided the links. What about if you a specific links page that people could go to if they wanted to find the name mentioned in the credit. That way you would have one link per farm/source rather than one on every single picture.

I don't think it will be a problem to remove links for most of the pictures. Most people will probably not notice. I might, as Monster suggested, leave up one link in the first photo in a series, or for specific people who wanted links. Otherwise, I can replace most with the farm name. I didn't realize it would effect our rank, or we could be penalized, or I would have policed them as well.

Just realized I read Monster's suggestion slight wrong. I like it though. I did promise "links back" as credit to people who provided pictures. As I said, I don't think it will be a big deal for most, but some might notice. We can leave certain a few links up or do as Monster suggests.

Just wanted to give an update on this. It seems that this may not be as big a deal as I first thought. The gallery software adds a no_follow tag to each of the links in the photo gallery. So, although we still need to police the links, they don't affect our search ranking the way I was afraid they would.

So for now keep doing things we way we have been.
