How do you say it politely ?

CheyAut has posted some cute pics of her foal but it seems to be in the middle of a junk yard, bale twine, shavings forks and all sorts of potential obstacles are on the floor - I really want to say that it's cute but I also want to ask if the foal is ok...kinda difficult one really...any ideas ??

Unfortunately, that sort of thing can't be said politely, when said directly to one person. Also, it may be that the foal and mare were just in that one spot for the photo taking, not that it makes a good photo.

Something we might want to consider is to start a "lesson" area, maybe in the critique section, on the best ways to take photos, etc. And perhaps a thread of stickies of articles about horse safety? You know, the free articles from TheHorse.com, showing injuries, etc., and how to prevent them?

quite frankly when I worked for AC , I would get calls on animals being housed like this, thin and mess dangerous messy, often I find privately is a better way to suggest that it might not be a safe enviroment for a foal with the clutter, my first reaction was "ladder in the tree?? was there a tornado? the place is a MESS!" Im quite disturbed at that thin nature of the other mini's in the pics, dont they live on air ? They have to really go without to look that thin, but there is hay obiviously there. I donno, someone might privately suggest better angles for the pics. I just view's the thread and was thinkin "WHAT THE" but bit my tongue. Its not an easy thing to address.

I have no photo skills, especially in the equine dept. ACC? As our resident photographic artist, care to start such a thread (and sticky it!).

The problem is... the foal looks fantastic! I doubt I'd have changed much as far as the way the photos were taken to show the foal. It's just WHERE they were chosen to be taken, visually speaking of course (let alone danger).

At least she did say the foal was only out there a short time.

Start it with an intro on what sort of lighting, etc., is best for horse photos, and then how to set up a horse for photos, for a non-liberty shot, move to how to take photos for liberty shots, and then talk about the need for uncluttered backgrounds and such. Don't have to do it all in one go, or all in one post. Make it like a tutorial/how-to guide.

Maybe we should ask Barbara if she wouldn't mind giving the advice on photography - that would be fantastic - then some of the rest of us could come up with safety stuff too.
