CMis being slated again !

Just wanted to point out that Andrea was having a go at CM about the way her horses are kept. I know it's not perfect, I wouldn't chose they way they live but sounds to me like they are basically kept as a feral/wild herd by the family. This means they sound like they cope and survive like a wild horse would and are not pampered - actually I don't have a problem with that one bit - I do think they ought to be looked at a bit more often and other stuff but it's not my place to lecture the kid, she has enough to cope with by the sounds of things. I don't know what you guys want to do but it might be nice to ask Andrea to apologise to CM..or ideas???

I agree. Not every horse needs to be pampered. Some people running show barns (this is not directed at Andrea) tend to forget that horses CAN take care of themselves for the most part (barring majory injury/illness obviously). I am of the opinion that just because this is not how you take care of your horses, doesn't mean I'm doing it wrong. Now there are some cases were something should be said if it's a life/death or safety issue, but I don't think this is one of those cases.

Not to mention, one generally gets more flies with honey...

yes you see when I bred the Lipis I purposefully did not pamper in the slightest the youngsters, wanted them to have to be tough because once you sell them they need to survice out there in the big bad world. I remember working for a summer camp in NC where they washed he horses down fully including genitals every day - the trouble is once the horse goes somewhere less prissy it's going to get sick.

I do feel an apology is in order here but am waiting for you guys to say what you want to do.

I'll defer in case I'm too biased by the way I keep MY horses (although they get more pampering than CM's, they get ALOT less than some others). Also considering I know CM personally, even though I don't feel that clouds my judgment, I'm just not comfortable making a call.

Okay, here's my take...Andrea's got a problem with CM, for whatever reason...(jealous that CM gets to grow up with horses? jealous that CM's family has that many? jealous that her folks have that much land [lordy knows, I am jealous that CM's family has that much land! LOL]). In this particular case, I think CM understands that others are behind her. I also think that Andrea would not understand anything we said or suggested to her about the way she writes to CM...she's basically stated she's proud of how "blunt" she is, and I know several people like that--they wear their "honest speaking" as a badge of honour, and it's pointless trying to get them to learn tact.

I think I might say something tho' about the "rain rot" comment...we've had discussions enough on this list about how many things are called by different terms based on locale.

I agree with all of that. :D

I will add that CM has talked to me about this (off the record, since we do talk as acquaintances on a fairly regular basis) and she admitted that she got too angry at Andrea. I didn't say if I felt either one of them was right or wrong, I just listened. I think one reason she may be touchy about Andrea is she feels very strongly (in a negative way) about how Andrea cares for some of HER horses. Such is the way when you gather a diverse group of horse owners. It's bound to happen.

I think there's only so much we could have done anyhow.

I agree I think it's time to be put to bed. If Andrea kicks up again like that though I think it might be time to say something in a pm to her.

Agreed ??
