Colors Roan Won't Show Up On

Are there any other colors, other than in my list here, that fully expressed, true roan will not visibly show up on? Or if I have something listed wrongly, can you give me a visual example of where it does show up on that particular color? Any patterns? -cremello -perlino -smokey cream -grey -1 pearl + 1 cream dilutes -fewspot -dominant white

Assuming that by true roan, you are refering to classic roan, it may not show up on an Isabella pali - they often exhibit even lighter coats than double dilutes.

And then there are max sabinos, medicine hats - just to name a couple.

It can be difficult to see roan in many light shades of colors. I have seen roan grullos, buckskin roans, and palomino roans that are difficult to pick up color on. Also, you can see roan on darker double dilute coats. The cremello I was examining this weekend would have been easy to see roan on. His white markings were definitely very obvious including being able to pick out small bird catcher spots.

yes I agree this goes back to your other question on expression of colours, if a DD is not that light then it would show up so you can only say that in MOST cases you can't see it.

Buckskin and Grullo.
It does actually show if you are looking for it, but it gets "swallowed" by the colour.
This is Mouse, who is a Grullo Roan (proven by breeding as well as the fact that I know she is!!)

and this is her mother, Precious, also a Grullo Roan.

sorry it's such a lousy picture, Precious just loved posing as you can see by her expression!!!

so pretty much lighter colors it won't show up as easily on, dun factors that have lighter coats, and any white pattern that is completely over the body where true roan(classic roan) hair would be.

and MY, what a pretty look on that mares face! LOL

No, it doesn't show on Mouse, she was clipped in that picture and showed no Roan.
Even now, at....um...seven???....she still does not show it much.
You get used to it!!
Precious was eight before I realised she was Roan!

Yes, I can see it not showing on Palominos, same as Buckskins...having said that I have see a number of Buckskins that do show it, too.

This is Blue, who is a Bay Roan and shows it obviously....she is Precious daughter.

Lipi. maybe your computer is playing tricks on the colour, but I have looked again at the originals and can see no obvious Roan on either Precious or Mouse. Remember both are Duns, and therefore have the dark head and points etc, anyway.....

I probably need larger or closer pics because she looks classic roan to me in those piccies more so than Dun - I am not disputing that she is BTW ! ;)

Wow, yes, you really do have to use a magnifying glass on that one!!
Lipi, she may look Roan in that picture, maybe it was a poor example as to me, it looks classic Grullo !!!
She was sky blue as a youngster, when clipped, as she is in that picture, and showed no Roan at all, but, being classic Dun she did have a dark head and legs....
