buckskin or bay?

Friend of a friend had a foal born, by a palomino out of a bay. They described it over the phone as "cremello looking with black in the mane" and mentioned that the stallion has thrown a lot of buckskins. I mentioned that my first thought would be buckskin. They sent me a pic, what do you think, buckskin or bay?

Definitely not bay. Probably buckskin, but something just looks a little off somehow. I can't place it.

I was pondering the same. Or even no cream at all... I dunno, something is just not sitting right with me about just buckskin. The tone is wrong.

lol...nude!

NEKKIE FOAL!

I'd say buckskin just based on what was told to us, but wouldn't rule out dun....has a very dun-ish look at a glance.

That looks like a cell phone photo to me. As such the color may be off a bit.

But I agree that does look like a red dun foal.

I thought so too Daylene, but I put it in Photoshop and corrected it as much as I could (until the remainder of the photo looked normal), and it didn't change the baby that much. :?

The one in your avatar? That foal's body color looks similar to this topic's foal color.
If foal is a bucky, how long before we'd start to see the points darkening? Would we have to wait up to a couple months or could the changes begin sooner?

Sometimes up to a couple years unfortunately. Some will go black the first shed, others seem to wait as long as possible.

That's just crazy! Years?
I remember Q took quite a while for her black stockings to rise. As a youngster they were mostly around her ankles and as she matured they slowly crept further and further up her legs each spring shed to reach her knees/hocks. In winter-coat they fell low to her ankles and mid-cannon. Her mane/tail were dark, though her body was very pale.

I've seen 2yos that barely had some chocolate coloring around the ankles. By 4 or 5 they were nearly all the way up.
