Be careful out there

Just heard that one of the moms of some kids we were in 4H with got kicked by a horse. She had lacerations of the liver and internal bleeding, but with a week's rest she'll be ok. She got very lucky that that was all that happened to her. It's been a long time since someone I knew got worse than their foot stepped on,

Ditto. Think, it only takes a few minutes to be "safe" or spend a lifetime regretting not taking the precautions. :sad

My neighbour just came round seems a local girl of 8 was out riding last week and fell off and got trampled - on her chest - she died - such a crying shame...think the only thing that may have helped her would have been an inflatable body protector but at £400 each they just aren't affordable to most.

:sad

I'm not convinced by inflatable body protectors, in that case they might have helped but what is (generally) the worst type of fall? the ones where the horse goes down with you, if the horse rears over backwards, over-rotates on a jump or slips and you go down together then surely you wont get far enough from the saddle to pull the cord, it takes 6 stone of wieght to triger the body protector so you couldn't exactly yank it.
