Alpacas Anyone?
Posting for a friend, who is trying to help a friend...lol price per head is somewhere around $500 obo They are located in Michigan (The Thumb Area of Michigan, up near Port Austin), getting contact info now...but this is what my friend posted. Just trying to help her get the word out.
Hey, I am looking for any alpaca rescues or people who really want some registered, excellent quality alpacas CHEAP. A friend of mine is desperately trying to get rid of his alpacas due to pending divorce and lack of funds. He's been trying to sell them for well over 2 years and is to the point that he will pretty much give them away. He is on the verge of loosing his farm and the animals MUST go as money to feed them is running out. He is located in Michigan, and anyone's ideas are welcome. There are 32 of them and I couldn't tell you the first thing about them other than they are camelids and win prizes for their fiber. They are in a variety of colors and if you are interested in more info, please let me know and I will PM you his contact information. If the taker/buyer is close enough and will pay for gas, he will deliver them and can haul 6 at a time in his trailer. I found three Alpaca rescues so far, one in Pennsylvania, one in New York and another one that I am still not sure where it is. So, bring on anything you can find, I know he will appreciate the ideas. And yes, he's considered putting them all down to keep from not being able to feed them, but he doesn't want to take that route unless its the last option he has available.

Re: Alpacas Anyone?

They are great animals for keep the brush and crap down in your pasture, they are also excellent flock guards and will protect the foals, sheep, ducks, chickens from foxes and coyotes.

If I weren't in the UK I'd be interested, we have 1 Llama and an Alpaca and they are great.

you can find more info on them at OpenHerd.com apparently. Just put in the farm name. Guess these guys have shown and won quite a bit.

Re: Alpacas Anyone?

I found this llama rescue that has contacts in Michigan - http://www.southwestllamarescue.org/coor..." onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Although it seems they are oriented toward llamas, often this type of rescue will take alpacas as well (or may know someone that will).

Re: Alpacas Anyone?

thanks! I'll pass it along. apparently he has contacted 3 rescues so far and one was full, one no longer exists and the other won't get back to him. Hopefully this isn't one of those three!
