Mares acting like studs?

I noticed Magic acting like a stallion with a lot of squealing and sniffing to her daughter a few months ago but today her daughter actually mounted her and then they proceeded to sniff and squeal at each other. I've never seen this kind of behavior before from mares, any idea why they are acting strange?

hormones, some do more then others. I have a mare that talks like a stallion to others.

One of them is in heat. Not unusual really.

I have a couple who do it everytime another mare is in season

i have one that acts like that....in a mixed herd its funny cause when i turn her out she shows 'in heat' to the gelding (who really couldn't care less) then arches her feminine neck and makes her best stallion noises to the other mare....mares are weird.
