Have I mentioned that I love you guys?

I sometimes try to participate in other forums but the amount of misinformation and just down right stupid statements out there is mind blowing :BH :BH :BH

Oh man, I had one of those moments last night and this morning...

She claims her Andalusian stud colt tested as EE aa Dd...

http://board.horsechannel.com/Topic3621…

Saying that the dun came from dad (who is also NOT dun)and it doesn't show but he'll pass it on if bred to a mare with dun. So I asked if she meant pearl but evidently the breeder has been breeding for 30 years and would know better then me (who ALSO breeds Andalusians...) :BH

She got upset and removed half her post about the color. lol But I'm still wrong.

That horse doesn't even look dun - she'd have a much easier time of it f she'd just post the test results.

I like that he'll pass it on if bred to a dun mare, though. That's clever!

Geez... I think I need to start testing all our babies! I may have a paddock full of duns and not know it because I am not breeding to the right stallions! Plus they turn grey so yea! Oh man... I'm probably sitting on a pile of cash!

Now to find out who tests Iberian breeds for dun. ;)

Actually, I would be quite interested in seeing a dun test on that one baby with the really wild stripes :bounce

Jabato? I know... if I could convince Mario to pay for it. Haha And I was going to send hair to hoofpick but by the time I had my hands on him (outside the pasture) he has pretty much greyed and there's not much left that is dun looking. =\ Does that matter?

If you google the horse's the sire and the word Dun you get the horse Tigre in the sold page and another website that has many other black horses called dun who trace to the same line.

At the bottom this is the only dun looking foal I saw on the site from 2 parents who are half siblings from the same sire who don't look dun. But in the description it says the mare was jumping fences.

EDIT: Found him matured in this pic. He is the one on the right. The one on the left is claimed black while he is claimed dun. http://roblestud.com/images/Friendsmall…

The Maryss line seems to be where all the 'not dun duns' are coming from.

^ I really really want to see these supposed tests and WHO is testing Iberian horses for dun. Cause as far as I know, the zygosity test isn't used on Iberians?

Not to mention, that colt that actually looks dun also seems to be going grey. I assume he's probably got the "grey enhanced counter shading" like our boy, Jabato did.

I've heard it's inaccurate for Iberian breeds since they have different dun markers and I remember UC Davis having a list of only certain breeds the test is accurate for, but it doesn't seem to be there anymore. :?

I'm thinking if they didn't test a parent's DNA with the foal's they could get a false positive if the foal happens to have inherited right markers combination from both parents genes.

rabbitsfizz Tue, 09/27/2011 - 05:02

Certainly does not look Dun to me, and really NOT Black Dun, that just is the wrong foal coat colour altogether.
Some people will do anything to get a "rare" colour, even bend all the rules. I know we have to keep an open mind- stranger things have happened- for example Freeland's DNA tested LWO solid stallion- but he tested he wanted to know, I think that is the key.
Saying it is Dun and stamping your foot and holding your breathe whilst deleting posts does not make you right.
And I don't like the sire, anyway, too little bone, looks like a Friesan X TB

UC Davis now has Paso Finos and Peruvian Pasos listed as a breeds that carry dun. So I'm assuming that they have refined the test enough for Iberian breeds.
