My husbands TWH is called a black, but of course he is not what I consider a true black, my Tobi mare is a true black and beside her he looks like a dark bay in the summer, but now in the winter he is pretty and black.
I have always wondered what he probably is really considered, my husband has a hissy when I say he probably really ain't black and has some modifier that keeps him from being black all year, and I have no idea so I thought I would see what yall think.
This is at his blackest stage.

This is when he is starting to turn and dapples show.

Then in the middle of the summer he can look as faded as this photo in the sun at the creek.

Re: Black TWH
Cool I am tickled that he is just a sun fading black, guess thats why the lady we bought him from keep his mane and tail braided and only let him out at night time.
I just always thought maybe he really was a seal or something, but he is from a long line of Black walking horses, hubby will be happy I wont question his black again :P .
Re: Black TWH
He could just be sun-faded. Do you have any shots of his head? My friend's TWH gelding looked like a bay by the end of the summer because of how much he faded in the sun.
