This is just not a color non-Welsh chestnuts sport.
Whattabout Critter's mare that is such a dark liver chestnut that everyone thinks she's bay?
Critter's dark liver mare makes a strong argument for sooty gene(s), IMO. But we know that Lp can muntify and other weird things to colour and "trim"/points, which is why my stance. I do hope she does get tested, cuz I really want to know 100% for sure!
I think I'm slightly confused. Are you saying that if their eyelashes are white at birth, it's probably pinto related and if they're dark at birth but go white eventually it's probably app related?
ACC
No, I'm saying that I have never seen a paint go from dark to white in the eyelash department, without grey being present (as grey removes ALL of my bets, not just for paints). I have, however, seen this happen on quite a few occasions, with apps, and with bay apps in particular (especially when there's not a full-blown nose to toes pattern). And I'm admitting that my paint genetics knowledge is highly sketchy in comparison to my appy genetics knowledge :angel I'm also stating my own experience/searching with this "phenomena".

I think you can test for *just* extension (she's obviously not black imo) for just $25 through Animal Genetics who are the fastest and friendliest I've encountered.
No offense to Horsegen intended. LOL! Speaking of which, anyone have any way to get in touch with her?

It's not Rebecca Ballone is it?
Such a long time ago.. I'm thinking it started with an R or an A but can't be sure..anyway this name rings a bell .
She wasn't involved with the Appaloosa project was she?

Ok I just looked at UCD's list. Two names are familiar for me: Leah Brault and Sabino Nooteboom (first name is actually Ann). Right now I am REALLY thinking it's Leah. The email address is just setting off ALL sorts of flags for my photographic memory. The picture also looks like the face I remember seeing from her trip to Europe.
Easiest way to find out is to call and ask UCD who is doing the work on flaxen Morgans. I know that's one of her current projects.
She only has white eyelashes on the side where the white comes down to her eye right? I'll bet it's the splash. Lace has black pigment all the way around her eye, but white eyelashes on both sides (even the brown eyed side, which is so cool). A friend of mine has a splash TB mare whose white doesn't touch her eye, but she has white eyelashes. I love them!

Our frame mare has white eyelashes on one side and brown on the other. I am pretty sure you all thought she had splash too. Pretty cool looking I must say!!!

With the question being is she bay or is she just dark chestnut, you'd not test for extension?

No, I said JUST extension. I don't see need for agouti.
Re: my first "what color is this horse" post in years!! :D
Kewl. Due to a massively hectic life at the mo', I wasn't able to go and send an email right away, and well, when I went to email her the other night (in a spare quiet moment), I could neither find her email in my address book nor any of her old emails....ready to toss this 'puter out the window, I am!!
