Happy Birthday to my girl
Forums
Just a quick post to celebrate my dogs birthday. I don't have children except the four legged variety, so what can I say! Maddie (or more formally Ch. Isengard's Makin' A Scene CDX RA OA NAJ) turns 12 years old on the 4th of July! She is my heart dog, so I am really happy that she is still VERY active and healthy. She is coming out of retirement to enter a for fun UKC dog show in a couple of weeks where she will compete in conformation, agility, obedience and rally all in the same weekend! Should be fun (don't worry if he seems tired I will pull her from some events, but this dog acts 7 not 12!)
Maddie is a Belgian Sheepdog (Groenendael). This photo was taken last week.
And since this is a color genetics forum, Maddie is dominant black, and almost certainly homozygous. The sire of her second litter was a Groenendael from an inter-variety breeding in Europe and his father was a Tervuren and has produced Terv puppies in other litters. Maddie's litter of seven were all blacks. Interesting I think I could see traits in several pups that I believe indicated that they received a Terv gene from Dad. One pup has a lot of brown hair mixed in his neck and shoulder area and the puppy I kept had a brown spot in her face (smaller than a dime, bit definite tan hairs). Both are altered and will never reproduce, but I was surprised to see some indication of a possible recessive not totally being masked by the dominant black.
That is a lovely photo. She
That is a lovely photo. She is recessive black? Please keep me posted. I'd love to hear how she does at the show.
