Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?

Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
Yah, the last pic makes me sad/angry.
If you look at the leg markings they don't match. The foal has a white front, the rescue horse doesn't.
I'm trying to hunt down a lead ACC gave me on the TB Database website. Not having luck so far finding the original poster of the pics :(
But dangit I want to know. I found video of the mare being claimed to be Slip Catch on YouTube and have messaged the poster, but since they haven't been on recently (like, 7 months ago), I doubt I'll get a message back.

It bothers me because if she isn't the real Slip Catch, then the pedigrees of her foals are wrong, and the real Slip Catch is out there somewhere.
Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
And this vid has both together http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A0dHiyL…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
I'm pretty sure the foal is Slip Catch. That pic used to be the official picture of her for years.
The rescue horse is likely a relative of some form. If it wasn't for the two solid front legs, while Slip Catch has 1 white front, I'd say they were the same horse.
The supposed "Slip Catch" I have no idea O.O' I look at her and think stock horse.
...
Or if we really wanted to get weird about things, Slip Catch's markings slowly disappeared over time. First the front, her large blaze slowly dissapearing, then her two hind fetlocks, and then her blaze turned into a small star! And the calls were coming from inside the house...
Ok I got carried away with the creepy story part, its late on the east coast >.<
Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
This is a pic of the rescue horse's blaze, I assume it's Tillbrook's hand in the way of part of it.

It kind of looks like a reduced version of the foal's blaze, but to have a horse change markings THAT much? I know I brought up that conspiracy theory, but I don't think I believe it... Or at least I don't think I do... This is all too weird.
Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
Since none of the horses are the same one, it begs the question of where the real Slip Catch is, and if someone is trying to make money off of "Catch A Bird" horses, that are really just stock horse roans.
I know they do parentage testing for foals, but they need to do a parentage test a generation back for this girl.
EDIT: Since the mutation for CAB's roan doesn't show up on a roan test (because it has different markers) I think a simple Roan test may do the trick. If they come back positive for roan, they aren't CAB babies.

Although this makes sense if it is a new mutation I'm just curious how you know for sure?
Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
Since CAB carried the first mutation of roan in TBs, they cannot have the same linked markers as the roan in stock horses and other breeds that share the same origin of their roan.
Different sources = different markers
If they have the same markers than that is a huge statistical improbability.
It's like how the Dun test only works for certain mutations of dun and not on all breeds. The markers are different.
Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
didn't CAB sire 4 roans? maybe some of the pics are of his other roan offspring. In fact..on one site I've seen that foal with mare picture that states the foal is Slip Catch..then right beside it is a picture of another, older foal named Odd Colors--both foals share the same markings.

One of the pics is mislabeled for sure..the markings match on these two, but they have two different names.
Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
I always thought Odd Colours was a red roan. Looking at it now... Dang lighting.
I never noticed they had similar markings. I think you may be on to something. ^_^
Odd Colours is listed as a bay roan. I'm going to try and find pictures and info on the Dam named Out Of Season and see if she matches the mare in the Slip Catch baby pic.
Update: Well, momma Out of Season is a chestnut, but because of her name, finding pics and links that may pertain to her are proving difficult to locate. :-|
Since both Slip Catch and Odd Colours have chestnut dams more needs to be found out about their individual maternal parentage.
Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
found this discussion on another forum, is there any info in here thats useful to you

Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
Lol! I have that page open in another tab as I just read your post! Thank you so much though ^_^
I got a response back from the jockey club, and it was the equivalent of a 404 error.
But, apparently according to the Australian studbook site CAB has been DNA typed and so has Slip Catch and her filly Lilac Hill. So genetically everything does check out tracing Lilac Hill though Slip Catch to Catch A Bird.

Odd Colours has not been DNA typed. And I still don't know who the rescued bay roan is.
I guess we can assume that it really is Slip Catch who just has the star and no leg markings. Funny to think this all occurred from a mislabeled picture. I would still like to get more info on this, and see if it is Odd Colours in the two baby pics. If only to straighten out who is who.
And since Slip Catch raced, I'm going to look around for any pics of her on the track.

Re: Ummm... Thats not Slip Catch?
Well, I will refrain from commenting on the last photo...still biting my tongue! :hammer :sad
I will say however, that it is obvious that those are pixs of 3 different horses - no 2 have the same markings...just remember, All Breed is what people post themselves, so accuracy can not be guaranteed
