Re: New Purebred Arabian filly :)
I will never be convinced that tobiano can exist in a full sized horse with NO leg white. Not to mention... purebred Arab parents... and they look like that. Nope. I'm 99.9% certain this foal would test negative for tobiano and would/will never produce a tobiano phenotype (aka he's not just a new tobiano mutation).
I'm holding back on my opinion a bit longer as I truly believe some of you will find it even more far fetched than tobiano. :rofl

ditto, it jsut has never happen yet, I doubt it ever will.... not to be confused with MINIs who defy the odds, they dont count nor can anyone use them for a guage for the rest of the equine world
I would look to the other 3 white patterns. NOT tobiano
Re: New Purebred Arabian filly :)
You guys know that this isn't the first "tobi" looking pure Arabian born don't you DNA tested at UC Davis and confirmed -unless fraud was committed. It did say that the mare was being retested, which would be expected as "tobi" doesn't exist in Arabs...but stranger things have happened.
I found this 2005 mare on fhotd recently that had even more "tobi" like markings... let me see if I can find that link again.

Be sure and check out the pedigree. There is one notable mutual ancestor on both pedigrees...I'm not an Arab person, but two tobi-like Arabs with a mutual ancestor sure says something to me....
Edited for spelling

Edited for spelling[/quote]That mare is being investigated by AHA. Her papers are already fraudulent as one of the people who signed her papers, was dead at the time he supposedly signed them.
I do NOT for ONE minute think that mare is purebred arabian. I would bet my LIFE on that mare being a partbred.
Re: New Purebred Arabian filly :)
Yup... I knew you would say that about splash. I really, really don't think it is one of the last places. While it's not common, I really do believe splash can cause that in at least a moderate expression if not a minimal.
I didn't hear you make another suggestion MP.
Re: New Purebred Arabian filly :)
OK, I jumped nearly to the end and came late to the party, so here comes my hat into the ring!!
The first thing I thought when I saw Daddy was "Splash" and the first thing I thought when I saw baby (sans any legs, BTW so I was guessing no leg white!!) was "I bet that's Splash"
Given a choice between the unlikely possibility of Tobiano turning up legitimately in Arabs, at this late stage of the game, or Splash white migrating to an unlikely position on a foal, I will take the latter any day.
I am sick to the back teeth of people slipping unheard of colours and patterns into breeds and I am darned if they are doing it to the oldest domestic breed of horse in the world!!
The Arabs themselves would have cut the throat of a Tobiano foal as a worthless mongrel.
I'm not likely to take it that far, but I do respect the wishes of the original breeders, in this case.
There is not now, nor has there ever been, Tobiano in Arabs, and I for one shall fight to keep it that way!!!
Re: New Purebred Arabian filly :)
Is this your baby swinghorse?
I don't know why anyone would have problems with that being splash. Splash has long been thought to be in arabs by us here and it occurs in an odd way on them.
Whether or not the mare is PB is not the point here, but it would help to know if the mare has any pinto blood! The foal is a doll baby!
Re: New Purebred Arabian filly :)
Well it would be relevant if the mare were part or full, as part breds can obviously have Tobi while purebreds can't!!!
And she would not have to have Pinto blood, per se, to throw up markings like this....she would just have to have what people often referred to as "normal white markings"

That's why I said it would be helpful to know....
Re: New Purebred Arabian filly :)
I have my own opinion of this... which I am not brave enough to state just yet.
What does everyone think?
