true or false dorsal ?

RF you saw her as a newborn
RF you saw her as a newborn and at the time you thought possibly black dun but she had barely any dorsal and as everyone else thought silver buckskin I went with the majority vote and registered her as a silver buckskin but Im beginning to think you might have been right , as shes grown she has got some darker hairs on her face and the dorsal is getting more prominent
but ... I read that the dorsal must be black if she is a black dun and hers is not , could she also carry silver ? would that account for the colour of the dorsal ?
If I clip her head and neck would I be able to tell her true colour or does she need to be older before I can tell
after reading about duns on
after reading about duns on another forum a thought has just occured to me , I have always doubted that the mare is dun , so in turn have doubted that this filly is dun ,...what about sooty ? could this dorsal and darker face be caused by that ? the dams sister was described as sooty on here on another thread so it is in the family
ah brown dun sits better with
ah brown dun sits better with me , that would make more sense
it says on Dun central that Dark shading on neck (which she has a little of)is indicative of brown dunskin rather than bay dunskin , the darker face mask she is developing would suggest dun too
she was born with very blue eyes too and Dun Central says ...Dunskin foals will look similar to bay duns at birth, but will generally be a paler, creamier shade, with light peachy-red tones. Their manes and tails will often not have as much black hair as a bay dun. Some breeders have documented paler/blue eyes at birth (they darken quickly), which is not seen in bay dun foals. This is surely due to the addition of the cream gene.
this link shows an example of cream + silver+ dun in a big horse , knowing that minis often express differently to big horses and throw in the brown it does seem possible http://www.duncentralstation.com/DunOth…
