Black or Silver Black??

I think this foal is Black and possibly silver but he is very pale at the moment. Might even be a Sabino. Sire is Silver Grace Serious Stuff (Sire of my filly Shimmer who is homozygous Black and tested positive for SB1) Dam is Dragons Lair Voodoo Queen she is a Silver Bay Here is the foal [img]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/Miniature%20Horses/Alfi…] [img]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/Miniature%20Horses/Alfi…] [img]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/Miniature%20Horses/Alfi…] [img]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/Miniature%20Horses/Alfi…] You can see the dam in one of the pics and here is a pic of Alfie the dad [img]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/Miniature%20Horses/Alfi…]

If the sire had Grey he would be white, mostly this is what happens when you combine Grey and Silver.
I do like that horse, too :love
Definitely Silver.

No grey from the dad - his dam is B&W pinto and sire is chestnut LWO + and sabino by the look of him.

I love this colt and if he were a she I would have been putting down my deposit :love

gorgeous :love , I love those silver blacks I'll have to get me some more of those lol
I wouldnt say no to mum and dad either !!
does shimmers extravagant trot come from her sire?

Bannerminis Thu, 05/13/2010 - 05:25

I have seen pics of the stallion on the move and he is well able to cover the ground so I assume thats where she gets it. I also think she gets some of his personality too as he thinks he has a right to every mare in the place and Shimmer thinks she has a right to do whatever she pleases

Although when the vet was out the other day she followed him everywhere and stood beside him while we were talking. He couldnt get over how friendly she is.

So do you think that the colt has Sabino too?? Or will he need to be a bit older

Very pretty foal....the mare looks silver black rather than silver bay but it could be the low light...has she been tested?

What breed is the mother? (first i thoguht shetland but as i have understood it there isnät any silver gene in shetlands, only a chestnut that looks like silver sometimes)

I love silver horses since i have had icelandics but it's fun to see in other breeds too :)

Bannerminis Mon, 05/24/2010 - 17:09

Dam is an imported Miniature from the USA so no immediate Shettie breeding in her. So Dam is AMHA and a Silver Bay. Silver doesnt express on Chestnut horses.
I have a colt that is chestnut but carries silver and is also homozygous for bay :flower

Ahh i see.
Yeah that's what i was thinking that since it looks silver and and seem to be known to be silver then it can't be a shettie.

I have been following the debate over silver in shetties for a while on and off since there have been a swedish one involved somewhat.

The whole "mushroom" colour that looks a bit like silver but has been proven not to be.

Anyway OT..i was just wondering because of that whole thing.

Beautiful ponies!
I would love to have minis some day, a whole little stable of them :D

I firmly belive that there is silver in the shetties, it's just that the UK sold most of them to other countries many years ago!! But I bet one turns up in the UK one day. I really do think that the silver in minis and US shetlands comes from UK shetlands originally. Australia has so much silver in the older breeds, our Australian ponies used to have so many silvers. I think it's more likely that the colour came from the UK rather than the Timor ponies.
Cheers
