Yes or No?

I was grooming a rising 3yo (bought in January) today and I was a little surprised.... What do you think? [img]http://in…] [img]http://in…] Am I imagining things?!!!

Don't panic....but it would be worth testing her!!
It could just be the hormones jiggling around, what with Spring springing and all......
or it could be a foal :laugh1

Paintlover Sun, 03/22/2009 - 13:05

I agree with Rabbit!!! Testing would be a good idea but the little udder doesn't necessarily mean anything. With my two maiden mares though they never had a bag like that until they were within a couple months of foaling.

Entirely up to you but for your peace of mind you may want to just get her tested. :)

Do you have any full bodied current pictures of her?

accphotography Sun, 03/22/2009 - 13:41

Lacy looks like that all the time and has zero chance of being pregnant. She's not quite 4 btw.

Photo of her today...

IMO Doesn't look in foal. Have emailed her breeder to ask if there is any possibility!! She is for sale so unless there is a massive change in the next week or so I'll have to get the vet to have a rummage!!!!

Please ignore the filthiness!!

accphotography Sun, 03/22/2009 - 15:11

I agree she doesn't look pregnant. Can you express any fluid? Not that it would tell you anything as Lacy has skim milk year round. :laugh1 I'm told it's plant estrogens causing it.

rabbitsfizz Sun, 03/22/2009 - 15:21

Clover can do that, but it is the wrong time of year...do you have lots of clover ACC??

Jenks Sun, 03/22/2009 - 19:17

I think yes. And Lacy does not look like that. The belly is dropped or the mare is tucked up even out of shape I don't know..... 3 she does not look...

That explains a lot!
Two of my young mares were doing that in alabama, I could never figure out why and neither did the vet. We had clover out our ears:

She's not 3 until June and has been barn kept all winter with basically no turnout to try and clear up her skin condition. Definitely out of shape - I was just tidying her up to start working her over the next week or so when I looked underneath her. She does have a bit of a belly and not as much neck/bum as I would like....

Update is possible liaison with a welsh A around June...

greasedweasel Mon, 03/23/2009 - 06:55
We always have clover in season. I'm not sure what her excuse is when nothing is growing though.

Lacy doesn't/didn't look like that?:

To be fair to the poor filly - she'll look a d*mn site more like Lacy with a summer coat and grass up to her fetlocks (and professional photography!)!!!!! She's coming out of a hard winter, give me a couple of months and she'll be a different pony - she's correct just not conditioned. :sad

Any update?? Have you had her palpated??

accphotography Thu, 03/26/2009 - 01:10

Oh no no. I wasn't trying to imply she looked poor, I was just saying her belly doesn't look like a preggo belly to me. At least not any more than Lace's did.

greasedweasel Fri, 03/27/2009 - 13:07

ACC - Paranoid me? Never!!!

Update - well being Scottish and tight with money (!!) I have decided not to get her scanned until the vet is out doing something else. However we are picking up a new mare probably at the end of next week and she will need swabbed.

I'm swinging more and more to her being in foal to be honest, her neck and bum look poor and her belly is out of proportion. I'd say I'm about 70% in favour of "yes"

Will keep you updated.....!!

Jenks Fri, 03/27/2009 - 18:29

It's just different. Work that mare ACC. Just a little. That's a round belly.

The filly has a different shape, not fat and round, but dropped in the rear of her belly a little. I could be totally wrong, it could just be her shape, but it's not fat and just reminds me of my Lacy prego.

UPDATE...

Not in foal!

Mane has been pulled, tail has been washed, she'll be in work as of tomorrow and on the market!

Must admit I'm surprised!
