A year for roaning/white spots?

It seems this year several of our horses are getting white spots and roaning. Not sure if it is just coincidence or what. Jetsy has gotten more birdcatcher spots with age, but is now getting white flecks of hair on her face and flank areas. I suspect she is sabino because she has always had a roaned patch of hair on her hip, but I wonder why she would not develop this sooner, shes 22 this year. She has some white spots on her shoulder for the first time and also she is much darker than she has been in the past. I was wondering if the spots are birdcatcher or something else? [img]http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c143/Sn0wLe0pard/Animals/Paint%20and%…] We also had two other horses with the spots and roaning, Smokey and Magic, but I'm pretty sure they both have sabino even if they don't have the characteristics. Maby I'm just crazy, but I found it odd that they would all get this stuff in the same year. Also was surprised that Sugar and Jetsy were that old!

Yea, Sabino is pretty cool. They almost wouldn't let my mom register Jetsy because of that roaned patch on her hip, but besides that is it a very cool interestin color. Amazing how different it can be horse to horse.

Still find it odd that so many would develop things this year.

What breed is she? My friend has a Morgan mare basically identical in color except that she has a weird white roan patch on the side of her face.

Frodo started getting white spots like that last year. All over his back. It was really weird. Then I figured out he had a bird's nest in his stall :o :laugh1 :laugh1 :laugh1

When Beamer started snowflaking on us, we first thought she had frightened some plovers in deep grass and they "paid her back", so to speak, as they flew out from under and over her (first snowflakes were white streaks on her head and upper neck). Hubby realised it was appy colour when he went out to wipe off the bird poop, and it wouldn't come off. :laugh1

Some of these random sabinoish thingys are supposed to be partly nutrition related, perhaps a change in hay or something has althered the mineral balance slightly?

Only thing that is different that I can think of is the ice storm over the winter. They have the same hay and mineral blocks they always get. Just noticed another gelding in a different field that now has white flecks of hair on his forehead. I guess more of our horses have sabino than we thought.
